The Spirit of Christmas
'round the world, more than 3 billion people celebrate Christmas! Our goal is to share the way we celebrate Christmas with people of all religions, cultures and backgrounds. Christmas is ultimately about the the celebration of the birth of Jesus and together we can enhance the celebration of the holiday season for everyone. Faith & Spirituality
Presented below is a collection of items that reflect upon our Faith and Spirituality during the holiday season.
Emmanuel meaning "God With Us" ~ Explores the concept of "God With Us".  This mini-sermon delivers a message aimed straight at the heart of commercialism and the paganization of Christmas.  This video has been prepared exclusively for Christmas.com.  We hope you will enjoy it.

The Origins of Christmas ~ Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Born nearly two thousand years ago, Christians believe Him to be the Son of God.
Swept Up in Joy ~ "I remember absent-mindedly kneeling in the pew after returning from communion. Lost in a haze, I focused not on the holiday or the sacrament but on my fears about what the next few days would bring."

God's Impossible Truth ~ "How often during these days of holiday preparations do we hear people say, "This is what the season is all about!" Maybe we say it ourselves: Through a misting of tears, perhaps, as we look over our family gathered at the table. Or at the end of a well-sung Christmas concert."

Christmas Prayer ~ "Christmas has never been my favorite time of year. I've always experienced conflict between the zillions of things that I had to do and the "silent night" of the shepherds."

  Music
We have music in various formats and lyrics to many popular carols & holiday songs.

Recipes
Bake a batch of buttered chestnuts or stew a mincemeat. Delicious recipes from around the world and, of course, traditional favorites.

Ancient Festivals

The Story of Santa Claus
The True Story of St Nickolas

I know I'm probably in the HUGE minority on this issue, but I grew up in a home where my parents didn't want me to believe in Santa because of their focus on the birthday of Christ.  I never felt like I was cheated out of my childhood or anything like that.  In fact, I'm rather proud that my parents handled it the way they did.  My husband and most other Christians I know did the "Santa thing."

Now that we have our own family, our kids have grown up knowing that Santa is an imaginary figure that many children believe in.  We don't ignore Santa but he's not the one who brought the Christmas presents to our kids.  Heck!  WE spent the money on those presents.  We wanted our kids to know they came from us! :laff:

My kids also don't feel deprived having not had Santa as part of their Christmases growing up.  We take our dog to have his picture made with Santa each year  Grin  and we even have some Santa hats in our Christmas stuff.

Interesting enough, many children in Europe believe it is the Christ child who brings the gifts at Christmas.  St. Nicholas is the one (dressed like a Catholic bishop) who brings candy to children on a particular day early in December.

Now then, there was no big reason for this post except that now you know a little bit more about me and how I celebrate Christmas.  Wink

Hark, I hear the herald's singing!  And trumpets blaring!

Who has sent out Christmas cards?  I am slacking but I HAVE bought them.  Today I even thought of typing up one of those silly letters telling everyone what all has happened in my life for the last year.  But alot HAS happened for me and I can't keep caught up with everyone properly so I think I may break down and do one.   Roll Eyes

I'm slacking too, LL.  I haven't got to the cards yet....and in a few more days, it'll be too late.  FIRST, I have to get stamps.  Buying stamps has got so expensive, it's like paying another bill. Sad     I have a cold which doesn't help me in the preparation department.

No Christmas cards sent out...yet.  We've only gotten a couple in the mail so far.

Here's the big question:  Who's already finished their Christmas shopping?  We almost have.

Our Church has postal boxes for the members, we address our cards, put them in the slots and donate the postal monty to a Charity.  This works good for all of us and we send more cards.  I do not have out of state or family cards ready to mail, but will next week.  Usually I adddress them the first part of November but our November was short with being gone for 8 days and baby sitting.

Christmas has definitely started for us, as we attended a new bank opening last night.  One of our friends is the new President and to give you an idea of her, she looks like a young Cheryl Ladd, a beautiful young woman who could tell you "No" and you would walk out of the bank happy!   Tons of great food, a nice symphony played and we visited with many friends
from our hometown  that we don't see too often.
A white stagecoach and horses gave folks rides.  A happy funfilled evening!

Today we met Cruise friends at the Gaylord Texan for lunch today.
The hotel,  decorated for Christmas is beautiful with lights everywhere and huge trees.  The drive up to the hotel is a Christmas Fantasy to view itself!  It definitely puts one in the Christmas Spirit.

Tomorrow we check into the Anatole Hotel for the Company party [Mr L retired from 3 years ago]  Vince Vance & The Valiants will be the main entertainment.

CHECK out his website!
http://www.vincevance.com/

All I Want for Christmas Is You   "A Wonderful Romantic Song"
Vince Vance & Valiants

This will be one more fun time, for he is the ultimate entertainer and will have everyone on the dance floor or go get them.  He also has an awesome band  & backup singers.

A Jazz &Country Western Band, also a few of the Legends Entertainers will perform, like Elvis [very believable!]  Tina Turner [also believable!] and others.
We usually get home around 1 P.M. Sunday afternoon, crash and recover!

Sunday night is our Church Christmas Musical.
Time for a rest so owe can make the neighborhood parties the next weekend Cool
Only a little Christmas Shopping left for me to do Wink

....in our email this morning, have a giggle Cheesy

One particular Christmas, a long time ago...

One particular Christmas, a long time ago, Santa was getting ready for his annual trip. Alas, there were problems
everywhere. Four of his elves got sick, and the trainee elves just weren't producing the toys as fast as the regular ones. Poor Santa was beginning to feel the pressure of being behind schedule. Then Mrs. Claus announced that her mom was coming to visit.

This stressed Santa even more. When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two had jumped the fence and were out, heaven knows where.

More stress. Furthermore, when he began to load the sleigh, one of the boards cracked, and the toy bag fell to the ground scattering the toys everywhere. Frustrated, Santa went into the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered that the elves had hidden the liquor, and there was nothing to drink.

In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider pot, and it broke into hundreds of little pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found that mice had eaten the straw end of the broom. Just then the doorbell rang, and irritable Santa trudged to the door. He opened the door, and there was a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.

The angel said, very cheerfully, "Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't it a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?"

And thus began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.

....and this one.......

REMEMBER THIS AT CHRISTMAS TIME
According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and
female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop
their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December.
Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring.
Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa's
reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl.
We should've known...
ONLY women would be able to drag a fat-butt man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost.

.......an email from momnmaui........

Definitely good tips for the holiday season!
Holiday Eating Tips

1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet
table knows nothing of the Christmas spirit. In fact, if you see
carrots, leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.

2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. Like fine single-malt
scotch, it's rare. In fact, it's even rarer than single-malt scotch. You
can't find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares
that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to
turn into an "eggnog-aholic" or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it!!!!
Have one for me. Have two. It's later than you think. It's Christmas!

3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of
gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of
your mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.

4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or
whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a sports
car with an automatic transmission.

5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control
your eating. The whole point of going to a Christmas party is to eat
other people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello?

6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New
Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do.
This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the
buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of
eggnog.

7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like
frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position
yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before
becoming the center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of
shoes. If you leave them behind, you're never going to see them again.

8. Same for pies. Apple. Pumpkin. Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or,
if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always
have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day?

9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the
mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have
some standards.

10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party
or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention. Reread
tips: start over, but hurry, January is just around the corner.

Remember this motto to live by: "Life should NOT be a journey to the
grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well
preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand,
martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and
screaming "WOO- HOO what a ride!" ~Happy Holidays!
