QTini Time

I have just been laid off from my Executive Administrator position after over 3 years.

It is QTini time, like a martini only made with a premium vodka and splashed with spanish olive juice, add three olives with pimentos and you have a QTini!

Anyone want to join me?

Actually, I am so happy to leave this company people say I am glowing... Tongue

No worries, I have other opportunities, I just need to decide where I need to be at this time in my life.

The question I have for you is:  should I go for the job that is the money maker or go for the job that gives me the feeling of accomplishment?

Ahhhh, peace of mind and accomplishment.  You have worked very hard all these years.  Time to do what you really want to do girlfriend.

Now, would you like to pass me an appletini?  I haven't had one in months.   Wink

p.s. I'm really proud of you.   Kiss

It depends on how close you are to retirement.  If you have enough saved for a comfortable retirement, I would say go for peace of mind now.  If not, I would advise that you go for the money for 10 years, sock it away heavily, and retire early or go for a peace of mind job then.

A good gauge is that you should be able to live off the interest you can expect on your principle.

Ex:  you have saved 1,000,000.  If you earn 10 percent per year (and you should), you will earn 100,000 per year to live on and never touch the principle.

now, can I have a chocolate martini please? Grin

I'd say go for the happiness and peace of mind.  My brother, however, works LOOOOONG hard hours at his job, never gets any time off, and makes excellent money.  He makes enough that allows him to quit every few years, take a year or so off, and then go back to the same kind of job again.

I'm sorry you got laid off.  Something better is bound to come along.

I'm glad to hear you are happy with the job change and I'm sure you'll make the right decison in the end for you.  10 years at a company you hate but makes you lots of money will not make up for 5 years at a company that pays less but provides happiness.  You can't put a price on happiness in the work place.

Forget the money Q. In my book it's not worth it. I am a firm believer that nothing can take the place of enjoying your work. Good Luck!

Yes on what Rupey said. I am working now 6 days a week, 8 hours a day, and at night! I don't like it. I plan on quitting next year and find a job with only 5 working days and a better salary.  Wink

My "expert" advice, "cough" "cough", is this:
Any of us in the "comfort" of a marriage with another income do not begin to know where you are in life and what type of income you are used to having.

Knowing that the years I was single were hard and difficult to make ends meet, I will say try to find a career where the money is good and you are satisfied with the job, people and can live on the income, plus having a bit to save.

You may not find this first, but take what you think you can handle and keep an eye out for a better position.  Ok that's my $.02! Wink
