Quote:
INDIANAPOLIS -- Freezing precipitation led to ice accumulation and power outages in areas north of Indianapolis and rain prompted flooding concerns in other locations on Wednesday.

An ice storm warning was in effect Wednesday evening north of Indiana's capital, including Lafayette, Kokomo, Anderson and Muncie (check affected counties). Further north -- in the state's northern third -- 4 to 9 inches of snow were possible, RTV6 Chief Meteorologist Kevin Gregory said.

Also Wednesday evening, a winter weather advisory was in effect of an area along Interstate 70 including Indianapolis and Terre Haute. The advisory was for a mixture of rain and freezing rain.

Irishlass is in this area.  Also I heard that Kansas was in a state of emergency.

Waiting to hear how our friends in these locations are managing.  Sending warm thoughts and prayers.

I'm here, doing ok.  We had two days of ice storm followed by 2 days of snow and I know some of the city was without power yesterday.  I had power, but no telephone, internet or cable.  Today I seem to have everything, but the school system is still closed so my boys are both home all day again.  The roads are pretty nasty out there...

stay home and stay safe.

Glad you are OK and did not lose power.  It's so important to stay warm in this weather.

Hugs to the boys and to you.

Glad to know all is well at your house, Rhune.  Yesterday I was thinking about you and this weather.  Now for Irish to check in with us.

is this a normal occurrence? oh... there are a lot of natural calamities these few months... the hurricanes in Florida, the supertyphoons here in the Philippines, the tsunami in South Asia, and now an ice storm....

An ice storm is when it actually comes down as rain but then freezes immediately after, leaving everything coated in a sheet of ice.  It's also called "freezing rain".  Right now everything is covered in about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of ice.

pau-
ice storms are bad because the water freezes on power lines causing them to snap thus power outages..

(not to mention freezing rain accumulating on tree branches causing them to break and fall on powerlines...  and now that I think about it.... people try to drive and they run into power poles causing the power to go out)

its always a safe bet of power outages during an ice storm...

got caught in one myself right before Xmas, got trapped with the INLAWS!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Yes!  We are expecting another ice storm this coming week as well.  So far it hasn't nearly been as bad as when Connor was born though.  That time we lost power, heat, everything for 4 days and had to camp out in a friend's spare bedroom that happened to have power still.  Connor was only 4 days old when it hit and we all huddled and shivered through that first night until we were able to locate someone with power.  I seriously thought about going back to the hospital.
