Tomorrow, Feb 25 is People's Day, national holiday in commemoration of the 19th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

In September 21, 1972, the Philippines was put under Martial Law under a Presidential Decree passed by the late President Ferdinand Marcos, husband of Imelda Marcos who had a great collection of shoes. For 14 years the Marcoses ruled the country with suppression of the freedom of speech, curfew, and with incidents of cruelty and dictatorship. The martial period is marked by progress in the country but also of tyranny. In 1983, Senator Benigno 'Ninoy' Aquino was assassinated while alighting from his on plane on the Manila International Airport tarmac. Ninoy Aquino was known to contest the dictatorial administration. His death brought people to begin revolting against the government.

In 1986, a snap election was held to appease the people. The people pushed Corazon Aquino, wife of Ninoy to run against Marcos. Marcos ignored the result of the election and proclaimed him the winner, blocking all TV broadcast exept from the government TV channel. And on February 25, 1986, thousands of Filipinos walked out of the streets answering the call from the Cardinal of Manila and gathered along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) and marched hand-in-hand holding rosaries in prayer and facing military tanks and machine guns. Nuns, priests, politicians, vendors, rebels, professionals faced the military and hand out flowers to marines. This peaceful revolution brought down the 14 year dictatorship of the Marcoses. The Marcoses was put into exile in Honolulu for years.

this is one of the biggest historical event in our country.. and this has proved that with prayer we were set free from tyranny and dictatorship.....
