It's been a long 3 weeks getting to this diagnosis. Poor child is now vomiting sometimes after her coughing fit.

it's very hard to diagnose because there's no fever and no chest sounds. damnit.

Finally she's on antibiotics but lordy knows how many other kids are now infected.

I quote from the pediatrician the first time we went to see her :it's a virus and yes she can go to school: at least we asked all the right questions.

Isn't an innoculation for this required before they start to school?

On MY! I'm sure she is miserable with this, coughing so much.
I know all our Grandchildren has had the preventative shot.

I'm so sorry Wednesday is sick....and it's just too bad that it took so long for a diagnosis.

Some parents have chosen not to give the whooping cough innoculation because of a possibility of bad side effects. Sometimes it's hard to choose the safest path with kids.

Wow, I didn't realize people could still get this. Do they do whooping cough vaccinations in Canada? I know they are required here and I guess I just assumed they were required there, but maybe they aren't...or is whooping cough like Chicken Pox where you can get vaccinated, but still have a % chance of catching it? Poor thing. Sad

I remember when my oldest son had pertussis when he was about 8 months old. He was hospitalized for 1 1/2 weeks with a "croup tent" covering his crib.
So happy for Wednesday that they don't do that now!

Poor little Wednesday...she will get better....one of my grand-daughter had it last
summer...she was only 8 months....she was in the hospital for 10 days...and her twin sister and older brother 27 months had to take antibiotics......it was chaotic
taking care of all of them....but they got better....all the best and hope Wednesday
gets better soon.

Wednesday has had all her vaccinations. So that's probably why she's alive and not in the hospital. It can be a very serious illness.

Thank goodness for antibiotics but doctors are reluctant to prescribe them as much now and so she went 4 weeks without them.

She's feeling better this morning but that's happened before then she gets worse again. I am hoping that with the antibiotics we will be on the mend. Thanks everyone for your kinds words and messages. It's great to have all your support. Thank you.

What I do not like now is that the USA does not require smallpox vacinations. Angry

We had one before we started school and we did OK with it!
I never knew of any child who had a bad reaction and I do believe it is needed.
All it would take for an epidemic is one group to have an outbreak.

I'm glad to hear she is doing better as well. I know from the past you're someone who's really aware of health issues, and if she's gotten something horrible like this then I am glad she has someone like you for a mom that will really stay on top of it and get her the care she needs.
