Dryer hint
« on: Mar 7th, 2005, 10:27am »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

A friend of my daughter wrote her with this warning.  Wash your dryer vent screen periodically....maybe every 6 months.   Her heat unit went out and the repairman told her that dryer clothes softening sheets can coat the screen, slowing drying, and overheating the heating coil so that it'll burn out.  He demonstrated by putting water in the vent screen and it held water.

My daughter tried it with her vent screen, and scrubbed it with a brush.  She says her dryer is drying faster.  I washed mine..it didn't hold water.  There are different kinds of screens, and different dryer sheets, so that might vary the results.   It's worth trying.

I got an e-mail about this recently and after seeing it here I decided to go check on it, and snopes says this is true. Smiley They also give a more technical description of why this works, etc. if any of you are curious.

Luci - I used to use liquid fabric softener in the wash but it gunked up the machine.

So now I'm using the dryer sheets.  And now I hear they're probably gunking up my dryer lint screen!  D'Oh!!!!!

Isn't there some type of fabric softener we can use that won't gunk up the machinesHuh??   AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!

Just clean the filter, bunnielou.  I don't know if my screen has a more open mesh, or if it's the dryer sheets.  I always use Bounce, if that means anything at all.

This thread is just another example of why the Manly Man's Retreat exists.   Grin

This is a safety issue, Bump.  Many  house fires are caused by a dryer overheating.  So be sure and tell Ms. Bumper.  You may gain points for thinking of house safety or lose them by giving her something else to do.  Here's a thought.  Clean it yourself and tell her your girl friends (note the space) gave you the hint.

We don't have a dryer.  Mrs. Bumper uses the Blow Torch off of the shelf in the Manly Man's Retreat.   Grin

Heck, Bump.....that means you can skip over any fire safety hints.  You obviously must live next door to a fire station.

So far so good with the Downey!  And my washer and dryer is over 18 years old!  Yes, they are Maytag!  The commercial is correct and I hope I don't jinx them by posting this here!

My feelings are still hurt over having to spend money for a new dishwasher in January Cry  However, it is so quiet Wink

Blow Torch, HUH Bump!     I must have a chat with your wife and tell her a great place to blow that torch Grin :laff:
