I've lost  my dog!

5 days ago our dog "Lucy" wandered off and hasn't been seen since!

She's absolutely terrified of thunder and will break out of our yard when a storm hits. Normally she will bang on the back door and let us know that she wants to come inside however as this storm hit early in the morning we were sound asleep and would not have heard her panic knocking on the door.

This happens quite often however we always find her a few hours later wandering the streets or in someones back yard. Sadly this time there is no sign of her.

We have contacted the local pound, all the vets in our area and left posters in shop windows. Lucy is microchipped so if someone finds her and takes her to a vet they will be able to track her owners through the chip.

We have 3 other dogs......Lucy was a stray that wandered into our yard about 5 months ago.....we found her owners but they didn't want her anymore because of her constant "breakouts".

We love and miss her dearly and I just pray that someone has taken her in and are looking after her well.

Several people i know have said " it's just a dog, no need to be so upset"......comments like that really upset me. Our pets are part of our family and how we feel about Lucy and our other dogs is a very strong love and bond.

We're so upset at the moment not knowing where or how Lucy is....there aren't that many people who understand how  we feel.

I understand exactly how you feel.  We lost a cat over christmas after we let her out and she never came back (she's a cat that normally goes out a bit each day).

Rhune don't give up on your cat just yet....cats have fantastic homing senses. About 10 years ago my desexed female cat wandered off, I was living in the outback at the time on a farm and I was sure she wouldn't survive on her own. I feared the worst....a fox or snake getting her. 6 months later on the night of my birthday she jumped through an open window meowing as loud as possible. She was skin and bone and her paw pads were cracked and shredded but she was alive and she was home! She never wandered again......she passed away 7 months ago at the age of 14.

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath, honestly.  She's about 15 years old and it snowed for 3 days straight after she left.  Sad

I'm sure you'll find Lucy though, if she's young and in good health, she's just got the wanderer in her.

Im sorry for the both of you.  I have lost animals in the pass and it is so hard, they are like family.  Bec I agree with you, I had to put a cat to sleep once and ppl were like its just a cat, ppl are so wrong.  Pets like i said are just like family.

A   for both of you.

Awwww, Bec, I'm so sorry for your loss!  Do you think an alligator could have gotten her?  I hope you find Lucy, for Lucys like home Cry  Perhaps someone has her in a fence and will look for her owners this weekend.
My namesake, she can't be gone forever!

We still miss our Shih Tzu, Bandit. Cry

Rhune - Don't give up hope yet.  I had an old cat that went missing for months.  Apparently, she got in a fight w/ another animal and holed-up somewhere nursing her wounds.  She straggled back w/ some semi-healed injuries when she was well-enough to do so.  I will keep a good thought that your cat makes it back to you.

Bec - I agree w/ Rhune.  Your Lucy seems to be a vagabond doggie.  Hopefully, she'll remember the love and care you gave her and she'll return some day soon!

we are hoping that someone may take Lucy to avet this weekend and have her scanned for a microchip. We understand that people are busy and if anyone has her they may not have had time during the week to take her to a vet.

We've walked the streets every day calling her, knocked on doors and done all we can. We live right on the ocean and have bushland not far away....but I'm sure someone would have seen her go into the water if that's the way she headed.....lucy is a good swimmer but she has never gone into the water without one of us being with her. It's driving me crazy not knowing where she is.

It's now 2.55 am Sunday morning and I'm awake because I heard a dog barking just out the front of our place....i ran straight outside hoping to see lucy sadly it wasn't her. Hopefully later today will bring better news!

I'm sorry your dog has gone missing.  I hope she'll be turned in, or you'll see her in your neighborhood.  Our pets ARE members of our family.

My DIL had a dog that would break out of the fenced area when it stormed as well.  This happened regularly if they weren't home when it stormed.   Usually they'd find her wandering in the cul de sac.

Bec, my heart goes out to you.  Yes, our dogs are family members and it hurts when they aren't with us.

I really hope Lucy will find her way back to you.  Let's hope that someone has the good sense to get her scanned for a microchip.

It is so hard when a pet goes missing like that.  The not knowing what their fate is can be an emotional bummer.  Sometimes it is better to know if they died, than thinking of them suffering somewhere all alone.
I hope you find Lucy soon.

Thanks all.....It's now 6 days and still no sign of her.

Lucy is a Border Collie and the most beautiful dog. She's very affectionate and loving and I'm sure someones taken a liking to her. I just hope she's being fed and has water and isn't hurt somewhere.

If she had been injured surely someone by now would have found her and contacted a vet.

The fact that we've heard nothing mmakes me believe that she's ok and is in someone elses backyard!
