Computer literate people I need your help!

For the past few days we haven't been able to access our emails.

At first there was little a box that would say something about our privacy settings and cookies.

another email address I have says that Javascript is required to read messages or something like that. We've never had problems before like this and it's only with our emails.... we can access any other sites no problems.

can anyone give me any idea what I can do.

Thanks

What kind of email problem do you use ? If it is integrated, like Outlook or Eudora, I would suggest you do a repair, by going to the manufacturer site.

If you use an external program, like Hotmail or Yahoo...and if you didnt play with your internet settings not even accidentally Wink ), then I suggest you do an online scan for viruses at Trendmicro:
http://housecall-beta.trendmicro.com/en/start_corp.asp

IF you did play with your internet settings, or if you accidentally deleted the java files from your pc, I suggest a system restore, assuming you are on Windows XP.

If you give a lot of details on what kind of programs are affected, and what kind of system you are on, that will help us identify your problem.

As I definitely do not consider myself to be "in the know" on computers, I would call my Internet Provider and ask them to help me out here.  Sorry Bec, that's the best I can do!

it is hotmail that we're having problems with and the othet is optusnet which is an australian company.

Not one of us played around with the settings.....just one day we weren't able to access our emails.

as for the java files I have no idea what happened there and yes we are on windows xp.

any advice will be greatly appreciated.

bec I had problems with Hotmail one day, couldnt access my
e-mail at all.  Then the next day it was fine.  If you can get on hotmail at all send a e-mail to them with the details that are wrong and they will contact you.

It's normal to have problems with Hotmail once in a while.  What would not be normal would be if you couldnt access Hotmail for several days.  Have you tried getting into your account from a different computer ?

As for optusnet, I am clueless. Check their website, maybe they have a FAQ section. If they offer online of phone support, tell them about your problem. Even if the problem isnt directly caused by optusnet, they should be able to help you.

If you want to give it a try, do a system restore to a date prior to the beginning of your problems.
You do that by going to Start/Programs/Accessories/Tools/System Restore.

I am glad it worked for you Bec !  Cool

Only, if it happens again, please contact your technical support, either with optusnet or your ISP.   Things like that are not normal, and they will help you review your settings so that it doesnt happen again.

Strange things happen to computers without our help or influence.  Things will be working fine when you leave your computer, and come back and different things won't work, or will freeze.  Someone, (Reset or Rhune or Fuel, one of the computer geeks) said often a sleep mode will jigger things up somehow. (You can tell I'm no geek) Now, if I'm going to be away from the computer for hours, I just shut it down.
