Cereal

I have always known the importance of eating  breakfast but I am still very bad about doing it.  Just now read this article about cereal.  Can anyone recommend a cereal that is low in sugar and high in fiber that TASTES GOOD?

"Breakfast eaters are leaner than those who skip the morning meal. And lest you think you're too busy for a bite that early, note this: Missing breakfast is associated with a fourfold increase in the risk of obesity, according to the latest issue of the Harvard Men's Health Watch.

The best breakfast includes high-fiber cereal, nonfat milk, and fruit, such as bananas, berries, or apple slices. Why is that better than a bagel or bacon? It will not only help you lose weight, but also reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and even intestinal polyps and colon cancer. The centerpiece of this healthy breakfast is high-fiber cereal. Look for breakfast cereals that provide at least 6 grams of fiber per serving, suggests Harvard Men's Health Watch, but make sure your choice is low in sugar at less than 10 grams per serving."

I eat Special K every morning.  I eat the plan kind, but i do know they have one's with fruit as well.  (I dont add sugar, or if I do I add Sugar Twin)

And yes breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  It gives you the enegry that you need for the day!

LL - I'm not a big breakfast person.  Just give me a pot of strong coffee and I'm a happy camper!

That said, I do eat cereal sometimes, just not for breakfast.  I absolutely love Grape Nuts cereal.  I let it sit in the milk for a few minutes to soften it up and then put sliced banana's on top.

Thanks for reminding me of this, LL.  I haven't had Grape Nuts in a while and forgot all about it.  I'm putting it on my grocery list right now!

WE are also NOT breakfast eaters.  I have been trying to be one for it does keep that lag from happening around 11:00 A.M.

Special K for me [the plain kind also], Cheerios [no sugar added], or Instant Oatmeal.  I do use a spoon of brown sugar or honey on the oatmeal.  All with skim or low fat milk.

Overall, I "trying" to stay from as much sugar, flour or bread that my will power will allow me Roll Eyes

Good Luck Everyone Cool

Oh, I've also been told the first item of food that should hit your tummy is fruit in the mornings.  Keep bananas handy!

They have a new cheerios out that is lightly sweetened and had bits of dried fruit in it, that I am liking quite a bit.  It's not overpoweringly sweet, but it's just sweet enough that I don't feel like I want to add something to it.  I'm not sure how high in fiber it is or isn't...it's their new "whole grain" stuff.

If you can find Kellogg's Just Rights ceral, they are in a dark green box. I have been told by a dietetician that they were a good combination of "healthy food and taste good food".

Plus, I use them to make pie crusts. Yummy !

I eat a pretty good breakfast during the week, the advantage of working in a hospital with a really good cafeteria. I usually have an egg and some bacon. On the weekends though,  it's usually just coffee!
