Walking for a cure

Hi,

Sorry I don't get here as often as I would like since most of my free time is writing about MS.

I'm posting for a cause today.

First some history;
Almost one year ago I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.  Multiple sclerosis (MS) usually strikes adults in the prime of life - between the ages of 20 and 50. It is a chronic disease of the central nervous system affecting the brain and spinal cord.

It comes and goes unpredictably, leaving people to wonder, "Will I become paralyzed, blind or have trouble walking? Will I be able to raise my family and continue my career?"

After a lengthy rehab period I am able to work full-time and walk on my own.

There is an MS Walk in my area to raise money and awareness  I formed an MS Walk team (Determination), and looking for folks to walk with me or sponsor my efforts.  You can find all the information here, https://www.nationalmssociety.org/PAE/personal/default.asp?pa=43337911&a mp;pd=PAE0EWLK20050417ELM

Thanks for reading this,
~Sam

Thanks for sharing your story.  I'm happy that you have overcome this dread crippling desease.  My second cousin also has it and she hasn't done as well as you.
Continued prayers as you travel throughout life.

Fuel - Thank you for reminding us all of the MS Walks.

It is highly unusual in the USA for a person NOT to know a family member or friend who has multiple sclerosis.  (My own sister has it.)

Join the MS Walk in your area.  You'll get some good exercise and help raise money for a worthy cause.

Fuel, I can feel a cure just around the corner.  You hang in there and don't be a stranger! Smiley

Thanks bunnielou! How is your sister doing?

The prevalance of MS depends where you grew up.  If you grew up in the Canadian plains or Scotland it's about 1 in 700.  While places closer to the equator are 1 in 1000.  So, it's not to common.  But if you are far from the equator give those young kids Vit. D.  The more sun or Vit D as a kid the less likely MS.

I did not know about the Vitamin D Fuel, I will watch this in my daughter's diet.

I wish your team all the best in your upcoming walk.  And I wish you a continued recovery.

Fuel, a friend of mine has MS.  She went away to school and I didnt see her for a few yrs.  She just moved back and I seen her a few weeks agao.  She is in her late 20's.  She has to walk with a cane.  She is doing a clinical trail right now.  I dont know all the details of the trail but I will find out and let you know about it.
  I
I hope a cure comes soon.  I will check to see if my area has a walk that I can take part in.

Take Care.

Fuel - My sister is doing okay.  She has episodes but deals with them like a trooper.  She has been doing the dance with the disease for about 10 years now.  Thank you for asking.

You bring up a good point regarding the suspicions of an environmental trigger for MS.  In the USA there are several hotspots (places where there are more MS cases than usual).  If memory serves, one of these places is El Paso, TX.

I believe another place to be my own community.  I have seven siblings and each of us knows at least one person from our graduating class that has been stricken with MS.  We have expressed our concerns to our state health authority.

That said, it is an exciting time.  I DO predict a cure to MS in our lifetime.  We are so close .... I can just feel it!  Hang in there, Fuel.  I believe there are better days ahead. Smiley

Please walk for your friends, and get your friends to walk with you.  I have another person walking on my team that I don't know but whose mother has it.
