I think, through American TV programs broadcast over there, that the English have a reasonably good idea about what to expect from our culture.

1.  Our English was born from theirs.  We can't criticize their spelling.  It was the original.

2.  The whole world knows about the almight American dollar, I assure you.

3.  Hey, now!  You're going to upset A LOT of people here if you start calling out accents.  The only ones qualified to make fun of the southern accent are those of us who speak or hear it every single day of our lives.

Americans must do something right!  I was in England for a week and lost 10 lbs from lack of good food.

Fast food we eat very little of, for you cannot beat good Southern  Cookin'!

I'm not sure what the point of the thread is, someone please tell me.  Is it to be critical of America or England or neither?

I'm at a total loss understanding this!  Undecided

See?  I'm just not sure what this was really all about.  It sounded like TAR was mad at the English, for some reason.

I don't see a thing in the world wrong with being proud of America but if that pride takes on the form of bashing another country--particularly one of our allies--then I think that's wrong.  That's just my opinion, though.

I think Americans should be prepared for the rest of the world.

How did this thread get back up here?
I tried to put it on page 2.

I don't agree with it one iota!
Anyone planning to come to America needs to learn to speak English.
English is our native language and I doubt it ever changes.
Go read Bumper's thread in the political section.

Lu, I'm not disagreeing with you.  I'm agreeing with Genius that if we go out into the world we need to be prepared for it.  When anyone leaves one's home country, one needs to be ready to adapt to the local customs, culture, and language.  I think the same can be said for those visiting our country.

Rup, I'm not disagreeing with you at all, quite the contrary,
but NOT agreeing with Genius!

Now, who's on first?  Grin
As long as we keep posting to this thread it will stay on top, so my  Lips Sealed closed on the subject.

Well, TAR, at this point, maybe it would be best.  I probably should not have even commented on this thread.  I feel like I'm talking in circles here.  I know what I'm saying but apparently it isn't clear.

No hard feelings, though, OK?  Wink

I would urge ALL who for some reason, do not agree with a particular viewpoint, to make their feelings known to the Moderator.  Attempting to "bury" a thread by just posting in every other thread is a cheap shot.

It is NOT acceptable to attempt to manipulate the Forum in this manner just because you happen to not agree with something.

I read the original post.  While maybe not thought out entirely IMO, it did not rise to the level of being offensive.  Therefore I let it go.  Obiviously, the original poster was intimidated to the point that he removed the post, and THAT is the sad fact here.

Lighten up folks.  We have a LOT of people here, from many different cultures with a LOT of different viewpoints.  One person's idea of a humorous post may not be another person's cup of tea but that doesn't make it, in itself, worthless.

OOOPS!  Ladies, now how many of us were on here busily burying a thread
[the week Bumper was gone] guilty of this 'cheap shot?'  Too many to count!

Ladies, guess we all boo booed!

P.S.  Why point out one part of my  post?
Include all of it.   That was rude and insulting!
