This really makes ya think.   Wink

Comments made in the year 1957:

"I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $20.

"Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be long before $2000 will only buy a used one."

"If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit. A quarter a pack is ridiculous."

"Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime just to mail a letter?"

"If they raise the minimum wage to $1,nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store."

"When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 29 cents a gallon. Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage."

"Kids today are impossible. Those duck tail haircuts make it impossibe to stay groomed. Next thing you know, boys will be wearing their hair as long as the girls."

"I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more..  Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying 'damn' in 'Gone With The Wind,' it seems every new movie has either "hell" or "damn" in it.

"I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the century.  They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas."

"Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday  they'll be making more than the president."

"I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They are even making electric typewriters now."

"It's too bad things are so tough nowadays.  I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet."

"It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire someone to watch their kids so they can both work."

"Marriage doesn't mean a thing any more; those Hollywood stars seem to be getting divorced at the drop of a hat."

"I'm just afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign business."

"Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when t he Government takes half our income in taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to Congress."

"The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on."

"There is no sense going to Lincoln or Omaha any more for a weekend.  It costs nearly $15 a night to stay in a hotel."

"No one can afford to be sick any more; $35 a day in the hospital is too rich for my blood."

"If they think I'll pay 50 cents for a hair cut, forget it."

Holy Cow.

And think about what we are saying about that stuff now.

I don't even want to think about 50 years from now.

I often think of that Angel.  But I seriously doubt I will still be here.   I'll be watching over though finding it difficult not to laugh.   Cheesy

.....................and may I add an email sent to me yesterday!
It cerainly fits with your title and subject!

THINK A GALLON OF GAS IS EXPENSIVE?

This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ........ $10.32 per gallon

Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ...........$9.52 per gallon

Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ...... $10.17 per gallon

Ocean Spray [Unable to display image] 16 oz $1.25 . $10.00 per gallon

Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 . $33.60 per gallon

Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 .... $178.13 per gallon

Pepto Bismol [Unable to display image] 4 oz $3.85 ..... $123.20 per gallon

Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ......... .. $25.42 per gallon

Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 .......$84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER...

Evian water 9 oz $1.49..........$21.19 per gallon?! $21.19 for WATER - and the buyers don't even know the source. (Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)

So, the next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout, or God forbid Pepto Bismal or Nyquil.

Just a little humor to help ease the pain of your next trip to the pump...

I remember the gas wars in the 60's and we would hitch up our boats to the cars, put all of our extra gas cans in the boats, and wait an hour in the lines to get the $.34 a gallon gas in our vehicles.  And we were saving a whole $.04 a gallon!

Why is water so expensive in the States?? At least your gasoline and cars are cheap. GAs cost twice as much here, and a car for like 3-5 times more expensive. To compensate that, public transport is cheap.

And now Singapore is more expensive to live than NYC! :faint:

yeah... Singapore is if I'm not mistaken 2nd most expensive city in Asia after Tokyo, Japan...

if I eat a McChicken Meal in Singapore... I can already eat 2 meals of it here in Manila....

and now gas prices are hiking up almost every month! :faint:  due to 'world market' price hike

You have to take into consideration the cars have to be transported across the ocean.  We can go to Michigan and purchase a car for less, but we've never taken the time.

The gas wars was a big joke.  My husband was a Distributor and we laughed about it, for we made more money then and in the 70's than any other time.
Another exageration by our Government!  .......and for what??

I do remember milk, bread and eggs costing a lot less.
$5.00 would buy a bag of groceries, now it's about $25.00 a bag!
We did say we would never pay $100.00 for a hotel room
and that was only around the time we married in 1984!

The only thing we can count on is change.................. Wink
