Not one we've met. This is a Hurley flashback, when he was in the hospital. Lots of speculation that "Dave" is an imaginary friend, shades of schizophrenia??

ABC has pulled two of the promo pics.. one of Libby with brown hair which looked like she was in the same hospital Hurley was; and one of the photographer taking pics of Hurley and Lenny and Hurley had his arm around an empty chair. It looks like the same shot as the one still there where Evan Handler (the bald guy) is sitting now - hence the speculation about the "imaginary friend." Not sure why they pulled them, but apparently they weren't supposed to be released before the episode aired..

OMG... this just gets better and better... Now we have this schizophrenic with no meds running loose on the island... being "treated" by another psych case... Crazy "Not-Henry"... and my personal favorite.. Hurley beatin the CRAP out of Sawyer... that was soooo funny...

There was an "easter egg" in this episode... can't believe I missed it and have to have someone else point it out... the sign on the bottom of Henry Gale's balloon... says "Widmore Labs"... just like the pregnancy test, and the "Widmore Construction" in Fire + Water... what you want bet the construction company Michael worked for was Widmore??

Was talking to my mom about this episode and she pointed out that Hurley isn't schizophrenic. She said it's very common for people with severe post traumatic stress disorder to see or hear people after their incident, especially if it was a loved one that died.

Yeah, she was telling me she makes it standard practice to ask someone suffering from ptsd over a death if they have seen or heard the person since then, and she said more than 50% say yes.

Severe depression from post traumatic stress disorder, from the accident he blames himself for. He walked out onto some balcony/porch and it collapsed under the weight and 2 people died. He felt it was all his fault because he's fat, although the psychologist pointed out that the porch was built to hold 8 safely and there were 23 people on it.

He also commented that Hurley's mom said he had just shut down completely after that, eventually taking him there for help. He was never really "crazy", but had severe ptsd (post traumatic stress disorder) - a treatable condition. The medication he was taking is an anti-psychotic medication, but not because he was violent.

The med is also used for anti-anxiety, I've got two friends who have both been on it for panic/anxiety attacks.

Just curious, did anyone else notice the look on Libby's face as she and Hurley were walking down from the cliff? It was almost like she was drugged... and then they flash to that bit of her in the hospital.. and i swear it was the exact same look on her face... I think she's off her meds too, and maybe not doing so well...

Also, wondering if she's stalking Hurley, and that's how she ended up in Australia with him??

Nope, Dave was an "imaginary friend" all along. If you noticed, he spoke exactly like Hurley does with "dude!" and stuff like that, and he kept throwing in spanish words like "queso" and "vaminos". Dave was the self destructive part of Hurley. I would say more than anything, in this case it's like a multiple personality disorder. People who have multiple personalities created them as a means of coping with horrific events (abuse, molestation, trauma), locking a part of themselves away in order to deal with it. Dave is pretty much that, the self-destructive part of Hurley that manifested as a result of dealing with an extremely traumatic situation. People with mutliple personalities are fully treatable and curable, once they have accepted and dealt with the trauma that created them in the first place. Most people with multiple personalities have one personality that is self-destructive. I think this fits what we are seeing with Hurley perfectly.
