'Dazed' Director Seeks Higher Education

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Initially known for his depiction of disaffected youth in the indie hit "Slacker," writer-director Richard Linklater will switch his focus to the malcontents in college.
The Texas native plans to write, direct and produce a film similar in tone to his homage to high school, "Dazed and Confused," but set in a Texas college in the 1980s, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film centers on a college freshman who must navigate the waters of higher education to join the baseball team.
The currently untitled project is scheduled to begin production in early to mid-2004 and will be produced by Paramount Pictures and Alphaville.
Before the college film, Linklater will wrap shooting the sequel to 1995's romantic drama "Before Sunrise," which starred Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy.
Linklater most recently directed the comedy "The School of Rock," starring Jack Black and opening Oct. 3.
