LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - The Hogwarts faculty has gained another Oscar winner.

Emma Thompson will join the cast of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" as the Divinations teacher, according to website Empire Online.

As Professor Trelawney, Thompson will instruct Harry and his pals how to prognosticate the future through various means such as tea leaf-reading, palmistry and dream interpretation. Although most of her predictions are bogus, she occasionally has moments of true prescience.

The role is minor in this third installment of the "Harry Potter" series, but Prof. Trelawney has a much meatier part in the latest book, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix."

The 44-year-old actress joins Gary Oldman, Michael Gambon, Robbie Coltrane and fellow Oscar winners Maggie Smith and Julie Christie.

Thompson's ex-husband Kenneth Branagh also played an instructor in Hogwarts' hallowed halls. He portrayed the narcissistic Gilderoy Lockhart in the continually revolving Defense Against the Dark Arts post in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets."

Thompson will next appear in the British ensemble romantic comedy "Love Actually" in November.
