Egypt Bans Carrey's 'Almighty' Sat, Nov 08, 2003, 12:11 PM PT LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Jim Carrey's "Bruce Almighty" is perhaps a little too powerful for Egypt's taste. Government authorities from the country have banned the comedy, saying it infringes on God's sacredness. The state-run censorship board says the comedy, in which Carrey plays a normal man who gets to play God for a week, is blasphemous. "The name of the movie -- 'Bruce Almighty' -- indicates that there is someone who can do anything and everything," the censorship's group leader Madkour Thabit tells the Associated Press. "Such traits belong only to God." In June, Egyptian censors banned "The Matrix Reloaded" on religious grounds, claiming it challenged the ideas of existence and creation.
