LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Nominations announced on Thursday morning, Jan. 15 for the 10th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards favored both big studio films as well as independent projects.

Indie favorite "The Station Agent," about society misfits who find a common bond of friendship, grabbed three nominations for best acting ensemble, best actor for Peter Dinklage and best actress for Patricia Clarkson. "Agent" ties Clint Eastwood's crime drama "Mystic River" for most nominations. "Mystic" earned nods for best ensemble, best actor for Sean Penn and best supporting actor for Tim Robbins.

The independent "In America," the fantasy epic "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" and racing drama "Seabiscuit" round out the ensemble category.

In addition to Dinklage and Penn, SAG also recognized "Lost in Translation's" Bill Murray, "House of Sand and Fog's" Ben Kingsley and "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl's" Johnny Depp for best actor.

Diane Keaton in the comedic "Something's Gotta Give," Charlize Theron as the chilling serial killer "Monster," Naomi Watts in the drama "21 Grams" and young star Evan Rachel Wood from "thirteen" joined Clarkson for the best actress race.

Besides Robbins, supporting actor nominations went to Alec Baldwin for "The Cooler," Chris Cooper in "Seabiscuit," Benicio Del Toro in "21 Grams" and Ken Watanabe for "The Last Samurai."

Clarkson received her second nomination for her supporting role in "Pieces of April." Other supporting actress nominees include Maria Bello for "The Cooler," Keisha Castle-Hughes in "Whale Rider," Holly Hunter in "Thirteen" and Renee Zellweger for "Cold Mountain."

Winners will be announced on Sunday, Feb. 22 and televised on the TNT cable network.

I have not seen this yet, but thankfully, the film club where I live will be bringing it in next month so I'll give it a full review then!

Mystic River was a very well-acted movie and if Sean Penn doesn't win the Oscar for it then that's a crime, but I really didn't like the ending of the movie.  It was entirely all too predictable.

I suppose I could go on and analyze all the movies and performances, but let me just leave you with this: one of the movies mentioned "The Whale Rider" is out on video and dvd.  It was made in New Zeland and it goes without saying the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful.  It is a very touching movie, often sad, yet at the same time you can't help but root for the little girl (played by Keisha Castle-Hughes).  Do yourself a favour and rent this movie this weekend.  You won't be disappointed.

.....and walked away with three awards tonight at the Golden Globes.  Best Supporting Actor, Tim Robbins, Best Actor, Sean Penn, Best Movie!

We saw this movie and thought it is ok, but just do not see the
Best Movie Award, or Best Actor, for that matter.
Clint Eastwood does command respect, so along with that, maybe votes as well.

Of the movies listed in this article I have seen "Cold Mountain" and loved it a lot and thought all the actors did great jobs and the film stuck close to the novel. Renee Zelwegger cound win for her role for sure. I have also seen "Somethings gotta give" and that is a fun silly film, Jack Nickleson was superb but Diane Keaton was just so-so. I plan to see "Mystic River" this weekend and "House of Sand and Fog" soon. After reading all the good press  "In America" is getting I now want to see that.  But a lot of the best films this year are dark depressing , you don't leave the theater uplifted and happy. But this season there has been something for everyone in every age group to cheer on to victory.
