charlize theron won for best actress.  i tell you people, i saw monster and it had me cheering and weaping and challenged.   it is soooo intense.  (you will never think of that journey song the same way again.)

[gettingonsoapbox]living in vancouver and advocating for people in the downtown eastside, i try to get to the missing women's memorial march every year (to remember the murdered and missing women, mainly prostitutes) but was unable to because of work.  the next day, i went to see monster.  i tell you there was cheering after she killed the first guy.  the way the story is told, you know you are watching a human being who has been used, abused, dehumanized (hence, monster) and then put to death (murdered for those of us against the death penalty...not trying to offend anyone).

i will not be seeing that passion of christ film because i see so much violence and crucifixion already in the dtes.  for myself and a few of my friends, this story of aileen wuornos, was the passion.  arggghhhh!

rarely do i get excited about hollywood movies but this is one i suggest every one sees.  i felt like i was pledging my solidarity to all those women who are used and abused, addicted and suffering from poverty, mental health issues and the like.

thank you very much.  Wink

Saw this one too, but don't you think Ricci's character was shown as "the bad guy" in the end?

Love Theron's acting, although the lines are full of "You know.", "man", "sh**", and "f***". They just do a combination of these words in some lines, but overall, it was very moving. You would sympathize with Lee, even though she's a "Monster".

We viewed this film last night via PPV.  We also had seen a TV movie of it years ago with Jean Smart as the lead.

Ms. Theron played the part well indeed and deserved an Oscar for her performance and portrayal of Aileen.  Yes, it was full of explicit language, only to portray the character of this woman and how tormented she was from her past.   Any other time, I might have cancelled the movie but only watched it to see her performance,   Yes, I did cheer for her getting even with the first man who was totally a degenerate and cruel.
A person's past does direct thier future.  After so much hurt, her anger came out fierce and tough.
We see her as a lovely, beautiful, graceful young woman, not the transformation in the movie at all.  The makeup artist did a great job of making her not look like the Charlize we recoznize.
Rizzi's character?  Isn't that what they all do?  Testify to save themselves?

We totally enjoyed this film. Theron earned her Oscar she was flawless. I admit language was a little rough but it was an R rated movie not a forum site! I feel language could have been not so heavy but it did capture the characters well! Ricci character litterally got away with MURDER! She complained over and over to Theron's character about money etc she knew what she was doing and was far from innocent!

Me,my girlfreind, and our two other freinds rented Monster, and 50 first dates(with Adam Sandler),and 5FD was an alright movie, but Monster was BY FAR one of the best movies I've seen. The acting was wonderfull, and it should have been nominated for Movie of the year. The ending was very.very sad and I almost found myself in tears. My girlfreind cryed also, along with the two other people...This is definatly a movie worth seeing

This is where we feel our legal system is at fault.   She shouldn't have gotten off scot free, if indeed she did!

As for feeling sorry for Aileen, NO, we did not!  She murdered innocent men, and the last man was only tryig to help her.  You say they deserved it, No, they all did not deserve a death sentence for being lustful.
Yes, society let her down, but she could have sought help from somewhere, instead of taking the route she choose.

Her demise came as it should be, for her to live she is a constant threat to society and this type of rage could never be rehabilitated.  She most likely would have killed in prison.

Sad, sad life.  Sad for her that life could not have been better. Cry

I'm so in awe I can't even discuss it.  Give me at least 24 hours to come down from Theron's performance.
