Favorite Comedy Movies

As I started a post about horror movies and telling us what is good, now lets go to the opposite...

I myself love these 3 for among a dozen

Mrs. Doubtfire!!!
Almost Heroes
Rush Hour 1 & 2 (but morely 1)

I suggest you see those in case you havent. I love comedy movies which are witty or sometimes in your face funny (though have the tendency to be corny) like as if watching Spongebob or the Simpsons. I dont like teen movies which are sometimes too green, and too "redundant"... but a few are ok, like "Road Trip"

Stir Crazy (Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor)
Animal House

I also liked Mrs. Doubtfire!  Cool

I loved the Naked Gun movies, Airplane, Kung Pao, and other silly movie spoofs in that same genre.

My favorite of all time:  The Pink Panther (was it Strikes Again or Return Of--where Peter Sellers keeps trying to get into the castle and funny things happen to him?).  That movie also has my favorite dialogue:

Peter Sellers:  "Does your dog bite?"
Innkeeper: "No."

(Sellers reaches down to pet the dog who nearly tears his hand off.)

Sellers:  "I thought you said your dog didn't bite!"
Innkeeper: "That is not my dog."

David, I see that you and I share an appreciation for Peter Sellers and Leslie Nielsen in good comedy roles!  Grin

Oh yeah, last year's "Bruce Almighty" was quite ok, I love touching comedy movies... "The Truman Show"

"Naked Gun" series by Neilsen rocks! And "Dracula: Dead and Loving It"...

"Robin Hood Men in Tights" have some great laughs like that mole thing, and when the King asked to say the bad news in a good way, so the Sheriff laughed hard while saying it!

Monty Python movies
Mel Brooks films
Naked Gun series
Airplane I (others were so-so)

Not many pure comedies are made now. Most of them are 'romantic comedies'. Some are rather good but the day of the pure comdey (you know the ones that are so far removed from being politically correct) are few and far between.

Court Jester (Danny Kay) Cheesy
Man with Two Brains (Steve Martin) Grin
Holy Grail (Monty Python) Lips Sealed

The cleaner the better.  Bottom of the list are movies like Something About Mary, American Pie (1-x), Roll Eyes

I consider "The Princess Bride" a comedy film.  I loved the humor in that movie!

One of my favorite comedies, and one worth going back and revisiting several times since each time I see it I relate to a different parent in it, was Parenthood.  Was done in the late 80's with Steve Martin in it.  If you're a parent or a teen, it's a great film.
