starwars.com is pleased to announce that Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith is the full title of the next Star Wars film, scheduled for release on May 19, 2005.

The Sith are masters of the dark side of the Force and the sworn enemies of the Jedi. They were all but exterminated by the Jedi a thousand years ago, but the evil order continued in secrecy. They operated quietly, behind the scenes, acting in pairs - a Master and an Apprentice - patiently biding their time before they could take over the galaxy. In Episode III, they'll finally exact their revenge on the Jedi.

The title was publicly revealed today in a special presentation to a packed audience of Star Wars fans at Comic-Con International in San Diego, California. "For some time now, the naming of a new Star Wars movie has taken on some special meaning among core fans, who love to take part in guessing games before a title is announced, and then engage in debate once it is," said Steve Sansweet, Director of Content Management and Head of Fan Relations for Lucasfilm. "Let the debates begin."

About Episode III
After three long years of relentless fighting, the Clone Wars are nearly at an end. The Jedi Council dispatches Obi-Wan Kenobi to bring General Grievous, the deadly leader of the Separatist droid army, to justice. Meanwhile, back on Coruscant, Chancellor Palpatine has grown in power. His sweeping political changes transform the war-weary Republic into the mighty Galactic Empire. To his closest ally, Anakin Skywalker, he reveals the true nature of power and the promised secrets of the Force in an attempt to lure him to the dark side.

yup... a year or two ago... I have read (I posted it here) a draft story of Episode III and indeed Anakin will become Vader in this film... Cheesy

I read a tidbit that the title "The Return of the Jedi" was originally "The Revenge of the Jedi", but changed it because they said it was too harsh. So why use "Revenge" now?

Anyways, I'll be waiting for this one. 2005! Two movies for 2005: This, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire! Cool

well maybe because the Sith are evil characters or the Antagonists of the StarWars epic.... so revenge fits them... unlike the good natured protagonists, Jedi...

I was going to bring that up too about "Return of the Jedi"

A good friend of mine has a poster with the original name on it before they changed it to "Return". The reasoning I remember was Lucas thought that revenge was too harsh for a Jedi and thoughts like that lead them to the dark side of the force. With that in mind he changed it to "return".

I would guess he had that in the back of his mind when he named this film.

I am looking forward to this film and seeing how Anakin gets deformed to the point he has to done the armor. I wonder how they will work it into the plot that people do not know Vader is Anakin. I forget if Ben knew or not in the first trilogy. I think he did and did not tell Luke for fear of what he might do.

Premise: (6/15/03) The exact details of how this movie will bridge the gap between the original 'Star Wars' and the prequels aren't known yet. Expect this film to see Anakin completely changing into Darth Vader, the rise of the Empire, the end of the Clone Wars, the fall of the Republic, the scattering of the Jedi, etc... it's going to seem pretty "down". There will also be the little rays of light, though, such as the introduction of Luke and Leia as infants. This movie starts three years after the ending of Episode II, during a massive battle that is part of the final days of the Clone Wars.

Death Note: This probably goes without saying... but I'll say it anyway, but just without getting specific. Something that we can expect in Episode III (which will probably start happening in Episode II as well) is that several characters who don't appear in Star Wars Episode IV will probably be killed off (or just die). There's only a handful of characters who do reappear, so... this applies to almost everyone else. They won't all necessarily die, but let's just say it's more likely than their survival rate. Dark finale indeed.

I hope they make something like a surprising move especially to future viewers who havent seen the original ones. Like maybe showing Darth Vader killing Anakin... not knowing that in the last film, he is Anakin!
