Supersize Me

Seen this documentary movie a few weeks back when my cousin bought a DVD.....  I find it shocking to see that there are some Americans who eat 2 meals of McDonalds at a meal time.. with supersized drinks... Shocked wow!

plus it's a shock to see a bonus clip that is included in the DVD.. when they made an experiment of putting 4 McDo burgers, a McDo Fries, and a regular hamburger and french fries, each items in separate jars..  they left them to rot for weeks..

on the 2nd week the regular burger and fries got molded, the McChicken,Fillet-o-Fish, and Quarter pounder molded, BigMac no mold and McFries no molds..

4th week they threw the regular burger and fries because it smelled bad already. the 4 McBurgers molded, the McFries stayed the same.

6th week, the McBurgers molded with McChicken juicing up.. but the McFries, stayed the same, no mold

8th week, the McBurgers start to juice up and disintegrate, but the McFries, still no mold

on the 10th week, all McBurger smelled bad that they threw them already, but the McFries still looked the same as day1...  Shocked

as the host says.. why does the McFries doesn't get molded or disintegrated after that long.. what chemical could they have put....

I doubt it's a chemical they add so much as the way the potatoes are cooked and the shape they are in.  I imagine oven fries would not mold either, but harden and dry out.  I bet they were pretty petrified in texture.

Just rented & saw this movie.

I eat McDonalds once every two weeks or so.

I checked the site, and basically each one of those times iI have 1,060 calories, 44 g of fat, and over 150 carbs.  Ouch...

I do like McDonalds though...mmmmm Big Mac...

He has a great sense of humor too, and waswilling to poke fun at himself.
I agree that alot of the reason the fries wouldn't mold is because they are so thin and deep-fried.  They're practically potato chips.  Not that that is a good thing, however.

I finally saw this film...I have to admit this left me more horrified than any of your horror films out there.  This is some scary stuff and as a parent it made me really reconsider how my children are eating.  I went out today to the local Whole Foods (Organic Grocery Store) and bought some better snacks for my kids like dried banana chips sweetned with honey and yogurt covered almonds.

yeah I saw this one too.  I am glad my days of regularly eating fast food are over.

It's hard to believe people can do this to themselves.

What was frightening was how much damage it did in so little time to his body.

The effects were similar to being an alcohlic.  Lethargy, lack of sex drive, weight gain, liver damage,

I just hope he was able to recover

Edited to correct my awful grammar

Not just that, it had an addictive effect on his body.  When he was between meals he was depressed and lacked energy, and as soon as he ate he would be like hyper and happy and just UP.  He also commented a couple times the more he ate the more he wanted and thought about eating it.  It had a very drug-like effect on him...makes you really wonder what's in there that's doing that.

He was able to recover according to the final credits bits they were rolling at the end.  His Vegan chef girlfriend created a special "detox" diet for him using fresh nutrient rich foods that had an emphasis on foods that cleansed the body and he recovered fully within like 2 months I believe (might have been 5 months, but I think it was just 2), which also really says something about the good food choices and their effect on the body.

yeah i remember his vegan gf.  I think there's something to be said for healthy food too, but ya gotta treat yourself to a greasy burger once in a while Wink

But yeah, he didn't want to do anything but eat and then he'd be on a "high" for a while til he crashed.  It was horrible.  And people do this to themselves.
