"Oprah Winfrey Presents: Their Eyes Were Watching God""Oprah Winfrey Presents: Their Eyes Were Watching God"
9 p.m., ABC

Based on the classic by Harlem Renaissance author Zora Neale Hurston, "Their Eyes Were Watching God" is the story of one woman's quest to find love, excitement and spiritual fulfillment despite expectations of a woman of color in the 1920s. Janie Crawford (Oscar winner Halle Berry, "Monster's Ball") takes an amazing journey through three marriages (with three very different men), during which she experiences both joyous success and unflinching heartbreak. That sounds kinda flowery, I know. Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan-Lori Parks ("Topdog/Underdog") adapted the novel to script form, and Ruby Dee ("The Stand") and Michael Ealy ("Barbershop") co-star. As the title indicates, Oprah's the gal behind tonight's presentation.

What did we think of this one Roll Eyes  We foun d it slow and a bit lame.  I'm not so sure about Oprah and her choices to spend money on producing moves, TV or otherwise Lips Sealed

Oprah will never have another "The Color Purple", maybe she should stick to this one success Wink

Overall rating **  I"d have rather seen a new episode of "Desperate Housewives" and "Boston Legal".
At least they are funny and more entertaining!

That's my opinion on this one and I'm a stickin' to it! Wink

I found the show very problematic.  Here is an article about why the production didn't work.

Sending a television production of Their Eyes Are Watching God like this into the world is like saying to a black child, the night before her first day at an all white school: “Now, don’t worry, Baby, Mama knows everyone is going to like you for who you are. But just in case, we’re gonna lighten your hair tonight and I bought you these blue contacts. You want to be popular, don’t you?”
