LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- "Star Wars" fans will have to find the right theater before they can leave for the dark side.

Seven weeks before its release, "Star Wars" fanatics started lining up outside Grauman's Chinese Theater for the sixth installment of the popular George Lucas movie series. The vigil began Saturday.

But there's a problem: "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith" won't be showing at the Hollywood landmark when the movie is released May 19. The studio, 20th Century Fox, opted instead to open the film a mile away at the ArcLight theater.

Still, the resolute "Star Wars" die-hards aren't moving on. Beneath a makeshift awning, 11 people refused to relinquish their spots in line.

"We've heard all this before," fan Sarah Sprague said, noting there were plenty of rumors in 1999 and 2002 that previous "Star Wars" movies weren't opening at the Chinese Theater. The rumors were false and the films were shown there.

Fox and the ArcLight haven't completed their "Star Wars" deal, but executives on both sides told Daily Variety "Revenge of the Sith" will play at the ArcLight, not the Chinese.

Yet Sprague was adamant the line wouldn't be moving to the ArcLight.

"This is still the epicenter for 'Star Wars' fans. For the big iconic pictures of the 1970s, people lining up were here. They weren't at the Cinerama Dome (at the ArcLight)," Sprague said.

Lucas' final "Star Wars" chapter spells out the last dark steps the once goodhearted young Anakin Skywalker takes to become the villain Darth Vader.

OK, I'm a Star Wars fanatic, but I'm not spending six weeks on a sidewalk for ANY movie.. sheesh.. I am however, calling in to work sick that day.. LOL. The school district I work for doesn't allow "personal" days in May, only sick days.. *cough*cough*.. I feel something coming on already.. Wink

Anyone know if they are doing this in IMAX? If so, I know where I'll be camped out the night before.. can just see me now.. calling in sick.. from a cell phone on a side walk ... LOL

yeah.. I'm a Star Wars fan as well.. but I don't see myself camping out in any theater waiting for its showing... what I'll do maybe is reserve a seat early on before the showing... cinemas here in Makati City are up for reservations but that would be in a day or two before the showing....

anyways... most cinemas here in Metro Manila are inside the malls, the best ones are in Makati City and one in Quezon City those which are standing alone are very worn down or dirty... so the mall guards would push anyone camping out of the mall after mall hours.. heheheh.,.... Grin

I am very axious to see thefinal episode! I can wait til the lines are manageable - don't have to be first or go on first day. I bought the trading cards this weekend so now I know some of the story - wish I did not. I resisted buying the book.

Hope those fans move themselves to the correct theatre!

I like Star Wars, but I wouldn't wait in any crowed long line just to be the first one to see it. I could wait to see the movie when it comes out on DVD. In fact, I don't think I would wait in a long line to see any movie really.

First movie I really stood in line and waited for was the midnight showing of Jurassic Park.

I waited hours to see all three Harry Potters and the final Lord of the Rings... however, I also tend to take the day off and go to the first showing.. people are either at work, or don't want to get up that early, and it's not as bad as the afternoon and evening lines... I just take a book, grab some starbucks on the way, and go hang out in the line.. it's just sort of normal for us now... was considering a midnight showing for this one, but think I"ll just call in sick and go to the early one.. Cheesy
