I love Casablanca!!!  I even enjoy watching the DVD with the commentary on..It is kind of neat to here about why certain lines were added or why a certain frame was shot a specific way!!

It's interesting how, over the years, those famous lines have been misquoted, too.  I.e., I've heard "I'm ready for my close-up, Mr. DeVille."  and "We're not in Kansas anymore, Toto."

Still, these lines have been a mainstay of our culture and the way we express ourselves here in the U.S.

My mom once told me that the #1 line from Gone With the Wind was quite scandalous at the time.   Wink

It was.. it was the first time that a curse word had been used in a motion picture.  It's the final bit of the book as well - and there were those who wanted it changed to "Frankly my dear, I don't care!"  It just didn't have the same effect.. so they left it at "give a damn"...

course, there's a part of me that says look where it got us.. "F" bombs everywhere these days..  Embarassed

My Mom told me the same thing, so guess that's
what they all thought about it!
You have to remember this movie was filmed in 1939.
In that day the word 'damn' was as bad as one could get.

And it obviously made an impression for it is still widely used.
Also numbers 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 & 10.

Now who is it that says movies don't have an impact on all of us? Huh

Sad, isn't it?  There are many movies my kids could watch if it weren't for that.

To this day, I fail to see what a lot of F words in a movie accomplish.
While otherwise enjoying a movie, it makes me very uncomfortable,
and also does my husband, AND he is NOT a wimpy guy at all!
There is something called decent, and this he is!

Then, how about having your Mother watching this
movie along with you, plus the Grandchildren!  :yikes:

The TV gets turned to another channel if this is where
we're watching it.

And we're also sick of hearing "it's no big deal" and "everybody says it"!
pfffft, have some class people!
Don't listen to or have this language in your life!  Be an example!
Ok, I'm off the  :soapbox: now! Wink

I watched Garden State the other night and enjoyed the movie.  However, I watched it again with the commentary from the Writer/directer/actor and Actress Natalie Portman on.  I was shocked at the F bombs from both of them in the commentary!!!

We started watching this movie on night, as I had ordered it from Blockbuster.
I could not get into it and was bored, so I stopped the DVD Player,  took it out, sent it back.  So much for that one!   Maybe this is an age thing! Cry

It was different. had some funny quotes.  I loved the  "He is just a fast food knight!!!".  I was whoaa after watching  the movie with the commentary on !!  I kept thinking is all this F this and such necessary.  Then I thought this is little Natalie Portman from Star Wars saying the F-Bombs.
