I think this is the first time in recent memory that all the films in the Best Picture category are ones that I haven't seen.

Actually, I haven't seen any of the nominated movies in any category...  Embarassed Lips Sealed

Personally, if I could only see one, I'd go see Crash.. I LOVED that movie... I want to see Capote though, because as a child I used to LOVE to watch Trumann Capote on Mike Douglas and Johnny Carson (am I telling my age here??)

I'm not so sure about that....

PS: I saw in a newspaper that Walk the Line is showing here right now. I love Reese Witherspoon and I like Joaquin Phoenix so I might see that movie.

I'm so glad I checked this thread!  I love the oscars and lost track of when they air.  I am really looking forward to watching tonight, although I question the selection this year.  Certainly these were good films, but they aren't by far the biggest earners or the most viewed/most popular amongst the american public.  They seem to go more and more artsy and elitist each year.  King Kong and Harry Potter made a lot more money.  The 40 Year Old Virgin was a more popular film, it definitely had more "buzz" surrounding it than Brokeback.

I question whether they were really showcasing the best films of the year (not that they were bad ones) or making a political statement with the choices.  I'm all for making political statements, but not to the detriment of other deserving films.

Here are some figures from IMDB

Top Money Makers (bearing in mind some of these continued to make money in 2006)
$380,262,555   Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
$288,060,759   Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
$287,153,504   The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
$234,280,354   War of the Worlds (2005)
$216,326,425   King Kong (2005)
$209,218,368   Wedding Crashers (2005)
$206,456,431   Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
$205,343,774   Batman Begins (2005)
$193,136,719   Madagascar (2005)
$186,336,103   Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005)

Most popular 2005 titles by IMDB votes
Votes    Average   Title
82614  8.0            Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
75960  8.3            Batman Begins (2005)
73362  8.5            Sin City (2005)
52439  6.6            War of the Worlds (2005)
47975  7.8            King Kong (2005)

I have to say that the only nominated film that I have seen has been Crash. I highly recommend it to everyone. It's hard to say that it deserved the win without seeing any of the others but I am glad that it won.

I missed that part!!!  Cry The station that airs Oscars here chops it up and inserts long commercial breaks. It started here at 10 am and it wasn't finished yet at 1 PM at which time I had to sleep.

In what portion did Garner trip?

And of the winners, I feel happy that Reese Witherspoon won an Oscar. She's one of my fave actresses!
