So now that you've seen it, what is your opinion?

I'm just not sure about it. Sometimes I look at Johnny Depp and think "What on Earth...?"

To be honest, I haven't seen the trailer and I know absolutely nothing about the story line. So the only reason why I would consider seeing it is Johnny Depp.

I went and saw this movie round the same time teach did.  At the time I was like, "hrmm...so that was that" and not really sure I had an opinion about it.  It was odd, and quite bloody, but not a bit scary.  I kinda thought well, I guess I wasted my money...but...after a couple days I found I kept mulling over parts of the film and I would start to think about some of the songs, get the tune in my head.  I started looking up song clips on YouTube, etc.  I saw it with my mom and mentioned to her later how I kept thinking about it, and she said it was the same for her.  Now I'm not sure I lost my money on it.

I'll probably watch it again once it comes out on dvd, honestly.  It was well acted, and I understand why it's gotten so much hype...I think it's the music.  I think if I weren't getting the songs in my head, I would probably forget about this film, but the music lingers and while the film is bloody, the music is romantic and tragic.

I liked it... but then I'd seen the stage version, so knew what to expect storywise... I think Depp did a great job... I'd see it again...

The storyline is basically Sweeny Todd (the barber) was unjustly incarcerated by a judge who lusted after his wife.  When he finally returns years later, he is out for revenge... so he takes up the barbering business again.. The song says it all:

"Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd
His skin was pale and his eye was odd
He shaved the faces of gentlemen
Who never thereafter were heard of again
He trod a path that few have trod
Did Sweeney Todd
The Demon Barber of Fleet Street."

The clips they have of the soundtrack on YouTube also contain voice bits.  I've noticed you can practically listen to the whole film if you follow them in order.

not related to the movie but... my favourite part in Jersey Girl is when Ben Affleck allows to let his daughter do a scene from Sweeny Todd for the school talent show thing... The part where they are doing in front of the school is hilarious

Oh. A musical.

I'm not a fan of musicals. But it's got Johnny Depp.

A musical horror movie... think blood and arias... among other things I won't mention cause it would ruin it for you if you've not seen it...

Well. I finally saw it.  I wasn't gonna (due to all the singin' and stuff) but my son let us borrow it, so I decided to watch it.  It was actually pretty good. However, it would have been better if they hadn't busted into a song everytime they turned around.

Isn't that an oxymoron?
