NBC Extends 'Punishment' Tue, Sep 17, 2002 12:51 PM PDT LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - A second round of "Crime & Punishment" is coming to NBC. The network has picked up a second season of the documentary series about prosecutors and their cases from "Law & Order" creator Dick Wolf. The second season will also include a second run on cable's USA Network, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The arrangement is similar to that of "L&O" spinoffs "Special Victims Unit" and "Criminal Intent," which air on USA a week after their initial showing on NBC. USA is part of the Universal family, which distributes all of Wolf's series. "Crime & Punishment" aired on Sunday nights during the summer, averaging 8.6 million viewers a week. Although it was a documentary, the series used techniques similar to those of "Law & Order" to tell the stories of high-profile cases in the San Diego court system. The second season will likely air in summer 2003, but NBC could use it as a midseason replacement if needed. It's not yet known whether the show will stay in San Diego or go elsewhere for its cases.
