Christopher Reeve Gathers Famous Friends for 'Freedom' Fri, Nov 01, 2002, 09:11 AM PT HOLLYWOOD (Zap2it.com) – Frustrated that students show little interested in history, actor Christopher Reeve (“Superman”) has called on his famous friends to provide narration to a PBS series on American history titled “Freedom.” At a press conference yesterday, 50-year-old Reeve, who is a consultant on the series, explained that his half-brother, a teacher, can’t seem to get his students involved in history projects. “The kids don't want to read, they don't want to write and sometimes, the kids, and their parents, get so upset because they have too much homework,'' Reeves tells the The Associated Press. Among the celebrities providing voices are Jennifer Aniston, Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hanks, Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, Kevin Spacey, and Robin Williams. Actress Susan Sarandon (“The Banger Sisters”), who’s also involved, surprised Reeve at the press conference when she announced that all the actors have donated their $1,000 fees to the Christopher Reeve paralysis foundation, which were matched by corporate sponsors. She then presented the actor with a $100,000 check. Reeve was paralyzed from the neck down when he was thrown from a horse in 1955. Since then he’s defied medical odds by regaining movement and sensation in his hands.
