CBS Imports 'Robbie the Reindeer' for Holidays Wed, Nov 13, 2002 02:10 PM PDT LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - A pair of award-winning British Christmas specials are coming across the pond this holiday season. CBS will air the two "Robbie the Reindeer" specials, subtitled "Hooves of Fire" and "Legend of the Lost Tribe," back to back on Friday, Dec. 13. The animated shows use three-dimensional models, a la "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" or "Wallace and Gromit," to tell the story of a reindeer trying to make Santa's sleigh team. The specials have been re-dubbed, with a largely American cast substituting their voices for those of the British actors in the originals. In "Hooves of Fire," Robbie (Ben Stiller) travels to the North Pole to try to make Santa's (Jim Belushi) team. Team leader Blitzen (Hugh Grant) threatened by the new guy and tries to sabotage Robbie's tryout with the help of Prancer (Brad Garrett). Robbie is helped in his quest to make the team by Donner (Britney Spears), who has a crush on him, and reindeer coach Old Jingle (Jerry Stiller, Ben's dad). Robbie, meanwhile, is interested in Vixen (Leah Remini), who lives up to her name. "Hooves of Fire" won a BAFTA TV award, the British equivalent of an Emmy, for best entertainment program in 2000. The sequel, "Legend of the Lost Tribe," finds Robbie seeking the help of a band of Vikings to thwart a plan by Blitzen, just out of prison, to kidnap all the reindeer and force them to work in a theme park.
