Splitsville for Evan and Zora
Sat, Mar 22, 2003 02:29 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Can a couple split up if they were never together in the first place? In the world of reality TV, the break-up process is as simple as never picking up the phone. According to the AP, Zora Andrich and Evan Marriott haven't spoken in weeks, ending hopes that those crazy kids from "Joe Millionaire" would be able to work it out.

"I really liked him, but we haven't talked since the 'Joe' reunion in February," Andrich tells US Weekly in its March 31 issue. "He's so caught up in everything. I'd rather be with a construction worker than with someone who craves the spotlight like that."

On the February 24 "Joe Millionaire: The Aftermath," the long-awaited reunion of Evan and Zora consisted of the pair sitting next to each other in uncomfortable near-silence for less than five minutes. They walked away making plans to be in touch on the outside world, but apparently true love wasn't worth long distance phone charges.

This was a twist "Joe Millionaire" producers may not have seen coming. In the first place, who would have guessed that Evan would have found a woman who loved him for his personality and not for his imaginary fifty million dollars? It turns out that Zora may have fallen for Evan in his $19,000-a-year incarnation, but that she just can't stomach him as a $15,000-a-pop public personality or as a largely inert KFC pitchman.

Zora has reportedly kept the jewelry acquired on the show, but she has yet to receive her part of the million-dollar surprise from the show's finale. Zora, who wants to becomes a holistic nurse, plans to use part of her prize to get medical care for relatives in Serbia, proving that bubbly Melissa M. wasn't the only contestant with a "mercenary" heart.

'Zora Day' Raises Controversy
Mon, Mar 31, 2003 10:30 AM PDT

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - In Lambertville, NJ, Saturday (March 29) was "Zora Day," a celebration of the return of former resident Zora Andrich, the substitute teacher who very briefly won Evan Marriott's heart and triumphed on the FOX reality show "Joe Millionaire."

The ceremony, in the community 20 miles north of Trenton, was a restrained affair as about 300 residents came out to greet Andrich, who rode in a horse-drawn carriage through Main Street and then, according to wire service reports, signed autographs for two hours.

The simple motorcade escort was a far cry from the parade originally scheduled to greet the arrival of the town's favorite non-resident. Andrich's big day, it seems, fell victim to local politics and the realities of a world events. The Trentonian reports that large-scale plans were toned down because of nervousness about anti-war protests.

The possibility of disturbances had little to do with the raven-haired Andrich, who beat 19 other women for the affections of the lunky former construction worker Marriott and also pocketed jewelry and half a million dollars. On the same day President George Bush issued his 48-hour ultimatum to Saddam Hussein, the Lambertville town council, led by Mayor David Del Vecchio, voted 4-1 in favor of a resolution opposing war with Iraq.

While more than 100 cities, including Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Denver, Detroit and Washington D.C. voted on similar resolutions, Del Vecchio's move has created tensions in Lambertville.

"It's nothing against Zora," said former State Police detective Donald "Tex" Huggins last Wednesday (March 26). "I guess this is my little get-back at Mayor Del Vecchio, who basically is heading this Zora day. And another personal feeling of mine; I feel more people in the community over the years deserve recognition than someone who no longer lives here."

According to Lambertville's Beacon, Higgins passed around a petition against the war resolution and asked the fire department to stage a silent protest. There were no reports that "Zora Day" was anything other than dignified and respectful.

'Joe Millionaire': The Truth About Mariah!
Entertainment Tonight

April 02, 2003
It's only been a few months since the "Joe Millionaire" finale, so when ET was offered the opportunity to catch up with stud muffin EVAN MARRIOTT, we were there.

The erstwhile TV bachelor was volunteering his services for a blimp flight to raise money for We Spark, an organization that supports cancer patients and their families. Evan's connection to the disease is through his aunt, who has breast cancer that spread to her brain and liver.

Before he took to the skies, the curly-haired hunk revealed that he had also been aloft for a MARIAH CAREY video -- only that was in a helicopter. Evan played a manager/bodyguard in the soon-to-be-seen music video.

"She's a good-looking girl," Evan told ET about Mariah. "This is her big comeback video, so it was really good."

As for published reports linking him to the pop singer, he says, "I try to keep it as professional as possible, because you never know when you are going to get slapped down. But she was really nice and super attractive."

Evan also has his suitcases packed for appearances around the nation in connection with his KFC commercial with JASON ALEXANDER. On his itinerary are Houston, Washington, D.C. and Boston.

For more dish on 'Joe Millionaire,' catch tonight's ET.
