New 'Bachelor' and 'Bachelorette' Wedding on the Way
Tue, May 13, 2003 02:28 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - It's not enough to just have a popular reality series like "The Bachelor." You have to know how to use it.

"One of the disappointments of this current season was not being able to launch a new drama off 'The Bachelor,'" says ABC Entertainment President Susan Lyne. "We have a fantastic captive audience at 9:59 and that became one of the goals of our development this year, to find the right show to follow 'The Bachelor.'"

When "The Bachelor" returns this fall for its fourth installment, it won't be used to prop up an uncertain reality franchise like "Celebrity Mole Hawaii" or "Extreme Makeover." It will serve as a lead-in to "Karen Sisco," one of ABC's most highly anticipated new dramas, focusing on the female United States marshal played by Jennifer Lopez in the film adaptation of Elmore Leonard's "Out of Sight."

The new Bachelor will also be a familiar face to fans of the show. Bob Guiney, who lasted for three episodes on "The Bachelorette," is ready for his close-up. The Michigan-based mortgage broker and one-time lead singer of the band Fat Army may not have lasted long on the show, but his humorous and genuine personality struck a chord with many viewers. It's that same grace in defeat that landed Trista Rehn her "Bachelorette" gig in the first place.

Trista will have her own place in the ABC fall schedule when the network spends four hours documenting her wedding to Ryan Sutter. The date for the wedding has not yet been announced and autumn is a long way away, but Trista and Ryan should give hope to the countless other reality TV couples out there desperate to believe that true televised love is possible.
