'Queer Eye' Opens in July Sat, Jun 7, 2003 11:21 AM PDT LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - "The Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," Bravo's "guide to building a better straight man" will begin the improvement process on Tuesday, July 15 at 10 p.m. ET. On "The Queer Eye," straight men looking for a change in their lives (personally, professionally, aesthetically) will report to the show's panel of five gay cultural experts, dubbed "The Fab Five." The Fab Five will first critique and deconstruct the subject's current lifestyle and then give it a fashionable twist. The experts will expose the straight man to the latest trends and at the end, a new, improved straight man will come out empowered, changed and complete with a "Queer Eye stamp of approval." Bravo also announced the experts who will make up the Fab Five. Ted Allen, Kyan Douglas, Thom Filicia, Carson Kressley and Jai Rodriguez have all been cast to add their experience and insight in the fields of food & wine, grooming, interior design, fashion and culture respectively. Allen is a regular columnist for Esquire and worked as a restaurant critic at Chicago magazine. Douglas is a specialist in men's skin care and worked as a colorist on television programs including TLC's "What Not to Wear." Felicia runs a New York-based interior design firm and has completed work around the country. Kressley works for Polo Ralph Lauren and is a nationally ranked equestrian. Rodriguez had an extended run as Angel in the Broadway cast of "Rent" and can be seen on the Great White Way as Zanna in the musical "Zanna, Don't." As fellow NBC sibling MSNBC has been making a dramatic and largely unsuccessful shift to the political right, Bravo is making an increased effort to woo a markedly different audience. Soon after the "Queer Eye" premiere, Bravo will launch the dating show "Boy Meets Boy," a gay take on "The Bachelor."
