ABC Unveils 'Dating Experiment' Tue, Jun 10, 2003 05:07 PM PDT LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - In a summer seemingly stuffed to the gills with unscripted relationship shows, ABC has found a twist. "The Dating Experiment" is a reality relationship show with a script. Rather than going out on the usual "Blind Date"-style excursions to spas, restaurants and pottery classes, the two real people on "The Dating Experiment" will have to follow a the plot set in a mysterious diary. The show's complicated format (based on the Japanese show "The Future Diary" ) begins with two strangers dropped in an exotic locale and cut off from friends and family. Each day a red diary shows up at their temporary home and gives instructions for the day. Those instructions, which can range from a night on the town to a trip through the jungle to jumping out of a plane, have to be followed to the letter. Will a couple put in extreme circumstance find love more swiftly? Or after several extreme adventures will a couple never want to see each other again. At the end of the diary, the pair is split apart and they have to decide if they ever want to get together again. The first episode, airing on Wednesday, June 25 at 10 p.m. ET, unites two bartenders in the not-so-romantic locale of Alcatraz Prison. After an uncomfortable beginning, things heat up with massages and skydiving. "The Dating Experiment" was scheduled to premiere at the end of last season, but disappeared from ABC's schedule. Hector Elizondo ("Chicago Hope," "Century City" ) narrates.
