'Osbournes' viewership down

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) -- MTV's reigning hit "The Osbournes" plummeted in its third-season premiere Tuesday, luring just more than half the audience that tuned in to last season's debut episode.  
 
This season's premiere drew a 3.3 rating in its target age group of viewers 12-34, down from a 6.2 in the same demographic for the previous season's bow. The 10:30 p.m. episode drew a 3.2 household rating and 3.4 million total viewers, down from a 5.2 rating and 6.6 million viewers for the second-season debut.  
 
Despite the steep drop, the ratings were still respectable by cable programming standards. Last season, "The Osbournes" averaged a 4.5 rating in 12-34.  
 
Another MTV mainstay, "The Real World," which is "The Osbournes"' lead-in at 10 p.m., also looked wobbly in its season premiere last week, grabbing a 2.8 rating in 12-34, down from a 3.9 bow the previous season. But "Real" recovered somewhat in its second episode Tuesday, grabbing a 3.6 in 12-34. That means the "Osbournes" premiere slipped slightly below its lead-in.

'Osbournes' Premiere Takes a Dive

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - That silence you perceive is the buzz fading away from "The Osbournes."
 
The third-season premiere of the MTV series on Tuesday (June 10) suffered a substantial drop-off from the Season 2 debut. The show drew a little more than half the audience of last fall's premiere.
 
Preliminary Nielsen ratings put "The Osbournes" at a 3.2 household rating and 3.4 million viewers -- a fairly respectable number for a cable show. Still, the ratings pale in comparison to last season's premiere, which averaged a 5.2 rating and 6.6 million viewers.
 
The show followed a downward trend in the ratings after last season's premiere, and it appears the slide is continuing now. The series isn't as surprising as it was in its debut season, and the Osbourne family have been all over the media ever since.
 
On the plus side for MTV, a large majority of the show's viewers are in its target audience of people ages 12-34. Tuesday's premiere scored a 3.3 rating in the demographic. That's still below the 4.5 "The Osbournes" averaged last season, but a solid number nonetheless.
