Gracin Skips 'Idol' Tour of Duty
Fri, Jun 27, 2003 01:38 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Joshua Gracin, who put his Marine service on hold for an improbably long run on this spring's "American Idol," will not be joining his fellow finalists on this summer's "Idol" national tour (presented obtrusively by Pop Tarts).

"Lance Cpl. Joshua M. Gracin will not be participating in the 'American Idol' tour as he was unable to complete his required training in the allotted time," says Major Curtis L. Hill of the United States Marines.

Gracin, who was on Temporarily Assigned Duty during his "American Idol" tenure, made the Final Four. The country-crooner outlasted every finalist besides Kimberley Locke, Clay Aiken and the show's eventual champion Ruben Studdard.

"Achieving fourth runner-up status in the 'American Idol' competition is a tremendous success," says Tom Ennis of "Idol" producers 19 Entertainment. "We're sad that Josh won't be able to participate in the tour, but completely respect and applaud his commitment to the completion of his military duties."

That leaves the tour with nine participants: Studdard, Aiken, Locke, Kimberly Caldwell, Julia Demato, Charles Grigsby, Carmen Rasmusen, Rickey Smith and Trenyce. Perhaps Gracin's departure will allow Vanessa Olivarez to join the group. At the "Idol" finale, the popular Olivarez said that 19 Entertainment excluded her to keep the tour down to 10 singers.
