USA Set to Create Another 'Nashville Star'
(Friday, July 11 05:28 PM)

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - USA Network network has ordered a second season of the hit talent show "Nashville Star" for a premiere in the first quarter of 2004.

The first "Nashville Star" premiered in March of 2003 and produced steady ratings for the duration of its run. Unlike FOX's "American Idol," the show it was regularly compared to, contestants on "Nashville Star" had to be able to write and interpret their own songs.

The result of this creative search was an artist, Buddy Jewell, who was able to quickly record his debut album (produced by Clint Black) and get it into record stores within months of his victory. The self-titled album sold over 50,000 copies in its first week and zoomed to the top spot on the Billboard Country chart. Jewell's first single, "Help Pour Out the Rain (Lacey's Song)" has also been a hit.

In its second installment, "Nashville Star" will again feature 12 finalists competing for a major label record contract. Again, those finalists will be culled from over 1000 performers competing in nationwide auditions.

The show is produced by Reveille, headed by Ben Silverman and H.T. Owens. Reveille is also behind NBC's upcoming reality entry "The Restaurant."
