LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - NBC is pulling a page from some of its competitors to get a strong launch from its new Tuesday-night lineup.

The network has moved up the premiere dates for "Whoopi" and "Happy Family," sitcoms it's banking on to give "Frasier" a credible lead-in, to before the official start of the TV season. The two shows will premiere Tuesday, Sept. 9, two weeks earlier than initially planned.

The move will allow "Whoopi," which stars Whoopi Goldberg as the owner of a run-down New York hotel, and "Happy Family," with John Larroquette and Christine Baranski as parents who can't get rid of their grown children, to debut against softer competition. The other networks will for the most part still be airing reruns that week.

The idea is to give new series a chance to find an audience outside the crush of premiere week, which this year begins Monday, Sept. 22. ABC employed a similar strategy last year with its comedies "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter" and "Life with Bonnie," and FOX is already on the air with "The O.C." this year.
NBC has also moved the premiere of new drama "Las Vegas" up a week. It will debut at 10 p.m. Sept. 22, following a two-hour Vegas edition of "Fear Factor." The show will move to its regular 9 p.m. spot the following week, where it will lead in to the season premiere of "Third Watch."

Elsewhere, ABC has moved the debut of "I'm with Her" from Tuesday, Sept. 23 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30. A second episode of "8 Simple Rules ..." will air at 8:30 p.m. on the 23rd.
