MTV Renews Vow to 'Newlyweds'
(Monday, October 06 11:15 AM)

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey won't really be newlyweds next year, but that isn't stopping MTV from ordering more of their reality show "Newlyweds."

The show, which chronicles the young marriage of the two pop singers and has become a great guilty pleasure for many viewers, will return for a second season in 2004. The first season of "Newlyweds" will conclude Tuesday, Oct. 21, five days before the couple's first anniversary.

MTV has also ordered a second season of the Snoop Dogg-fronted comedy-music show "Doggy Fizzle Televizzle" and a 13th edition of "Road Rules."

"'Doggy Fizzle Televizzle' and 'Newlyweds' both found a strong connection with our diverse audience and 'Road Rules,' one of the original reality shows, is still a big hit after 12 seasons," says Brian Graden, president of entertainment for MTV and VH1.

"Newlyweds" has become a buzzworthy show thanks in large part to the eminently quotable Simpson, who's portrayed on the show as having a hard time adjusting to the demands of marriage and home ownership. She's also had a couple of noteworthy food-related gaffes, wondering whether her Chicken of the Sea brand tuna was actually chicken or fish and saying "I don't eat buffalo" when she was offered a Buffalo wing.
