NBC Does Unauthorized 'Charlie's Angels'
(Monday, October 06 08:44 AM)

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Following the success of its backstage look at "Three's Company" last season, NBC is planning a movie about another 1970s TV hit.

The network has greenlit a movie about the tumult on the set in the early days of "Charlie's Angels," which introduced the term "jiggle TV" to American pop culture and was a Top 20 hit for most of its run on ABC.

Francine McDougall ("Sugar & Spice") has signed on to direct the movie, which will be called "Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of 'Charlie's Angels.'" Matt Dorff ("Growing Up Brady," "The Osmonds") will write the script, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Casting hasn't started yet.

NBC also used the "Behind the Camera" sobriquet for its "Three's Company" movie. Like that film, the "Charlie's Angels" movie will focus heavily on backstage turmoil, particularly during the show's first season when Farrah Fawcett became a breakout star and then promptly left the series.

About 10 million people watched the "Three's Company" movie when it debuted in May. It also was one of last season's top-rated original movies among adults 18-49, the demographic group by which NBC measures its success.
