FOX Plans 'Idol' Christmas in November (Monday, October 13 10:56 AM) LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Christmas, of course, occurs in December. But for television networks, every blockbuster sweeps period is a little bit like Christmas, so FOX is making sure to get its presents under the tree a little bit early. Facing the terrifying prospect of a sweeps period without "American Idol," the network has found a way to sneak in under the wire. FOX will air "American Idol: Christmas Songs" on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 8 p.m. ET, the day before the end of the sweep. The special is sure to goose sales of "American Idol -- The Great Holiday Classics," a CD on shelves on Tuesday (Oct. 14). "Christmas Songs" will feature performances by both "American Idol" winners, Kelly Clarkson and Ruben Studdard, as well as the show's two runner-up, Justin Guarini and the ubiquitous Clay Aiken. America's favorite FOX-spawned crooners will chime in on carols and holiday favorites. Fan favorites Christina Christian, Tamyra Gray and Kimberley Locke are also expected to sing. Despite bearing the "American Idol" name, the show's judges -- Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul -- aren't slated to appear and host Ryan Seacrest may also be missing in action. While "American Idol" helped FOX to consecutive sweeps wins in the coveted demographic of adults 18-49, this one-off special may have to defeat some stiff competition. NBC has specials with Shania Twain and Justin Timberlake which may air the same night.
