LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - A teenage version of "Big Brother" is drawing fire in the United Kingdom, mostly for its depiction of sexual intimacy between two houseguests.

The series, which debuted on Britain's Channel 4 Monday (Oct. 13), is scheduled to run for the remainder of the week. Prior to its premiere, though, it came under heavy criticism for a scene in which houseguests Jade Dyer and Tommy Wright, both 18, are shown having sex under the covers.

According to Britain's Independent newspaper, the scene is the first real-life sexual act shown on British TV.

"If you can't make mistakes when you are young, without everyone being there to watch you, when can you?" says prominent advice columnist Claire Rayner, a vocal critic of "Teen Big Brother." "I'm not concerned about this affecting morals -- I'm concerned about kids of 18 whose activities will be captured for ever more."

The fact that the show was originally commissioned by 4Learning, Channel 4's educational unit, as a daytime series for teenagers -- then switched to primetime -- has also raised eyebrows. Channel 4 says it will re-edit the show and air it during daytime early next year.

A representative for 4Learning says the teenagers in the show act more grown-up than in the adult version of "Big Brother," discussing weighty issues like politics and religion.

"The sex lasts for a few moments of five hours of television," says Heather Rabbatts, managing director of 4Learning. "There are also bits of conversation where they argue about politics and religion. If people watch it to see sex, they'll be disappointed."

EXCLUSIVE: Two 18-yr-olds in Channel 4's 'educational' version of show are first to have sex in BB house

THERE'S been a couple of close calls, but now it's finally happened.

Two 18-year-olds have become the first to have sex in the Big Brother house - on an educational youth version of the show.

Tommy Wright and Jade Dyer slipped under the duvet for the saucy session as housemates slept nearby.

Stunned TV staff on Teen Big Brother watched as the pair romped for several minutes after Tommy gave Jade a hand massage.

A Channel 4 insider said: "They didn't care who was watching or listening.

"One minute they were giving each other hand massages and the next they were having sex. They were really going for it. It was obvious what they were up to. It took us by surprise.

"The first ever Big Brother bonk was taking place and it was between two 18-year-olds."

Ever since Big Brother began in 2000, bookies have been taking bets on who would have sex first.

ROMP: Tommy at Endemol yesterday

In the third show Jade and PJ had oral sex. And in the last one Nush and Scott looked set for a romp until she snubbed him.

The insider added: "The teenagers have beaten the adults to it. They've shown them how its done."

It is believed the couple did not use contraception. Channel 4, who banned booze from the house, say makers Endemol should have stopped the sex.

But Endemol argue the show is about how teens face life's challenges and it was part of the experiment.

The eight housemates, all 18, had spent a fortnight together. They met again yesterday at Endemol's offices in London.

When asked about the romp Tommy, from Weymouth, Dorset, said: "How do you know about this? I'm not saying anything."

Jade, from Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, added: "I'm saying nothing."

Teen Big Brother is to be screened in the New Year.
