An 'Idol' Reunion! Kelly, Clay & Ruben October 30, 2003 So maybe there were no chestnuts roasting on an open fire, but KELLY CLARKSON, CLAY AIKEN and RUBEN STUDDARD still joined former "American Idol" contestants CHRISTINA CHRISTIAN, TAMYRA GRAY and KIMBERLEY LOCKE this week to tape the FOX holiday special, "American Idol: Christmas Songs." "We're starting Christmas a little early here with the 'Idol' company," joked Kelly, who will be singing the favorite "O Holy Night" on the Nov. 25 program. She said this was the first time she'd seen Clay and Ruben since "Idol"'s season finale. "Technically I'm the old one," she kidded, "but it's okay." Being the eldest has its advantages however. After becoming a Candies' shoe girl and releasing a hit album, Kelly just performed along with superstars BEYONCE, MICHELLE BRANCH and NELLY Monday night at the Radio Music Awards in Las Vegas. But Clay hasn't done too shabby either. The night before the release of his double-platinum debut album, Measure of a Man, thousands of fans held parties in his honor, and at the stroke of midnight on October 14th, they bombarded record stores to buy his CD. The goal of the fans attending the 90 parties was to make their favorite singer's album go platinum in one day -- and it's now clear their efforts weren't in vain! All this is something to brag about, keeping in mind that the former "Idol" contender only came in second in the competition. Since losing out to Ruben by 1 percent of the vote, Clay has more than made up the gap. His cover of Rolling Stone became the biggest-selling issue in the past five years; his single, "This is the Night," not only went platinum, but was the biggest-selling single since ELTON JOHN's re-working of "Candle in the Wind" to honor PRINCESS DIANA; and his single has already topped Billboard's charts for two weeks running. "I'm excited for him," said Clay's pal Ruben, whose debut CD Soulful is due out Dec. 9. "Hopefully I'll do just as good. My album is about to come out. ... I'm not nervous at all. I know that I've worked very hard and whatever god has for me, god has for me. I'll just continue to do the best that I can do." If you can't wait another month to get in the holiday spirit, American Idol -- The Great Holiday Classics, released October 14th, features performances by "American Idol" contestants, including JUSTIN GUARINI and TAMYRA GRAY. "American Idol: Christmas Songs" airs Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 8 p.m. on FOX. For more fun with Clay, Ruben and Kelly, watch tonight's ET!
