'Idol's' Guarini Sued over Accident
(Sunday, November 09 10:03 AM)

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Justin Guarini, runner-up in the first "American Idol" competition, is being sued by a Pennsylvania couple who say they were injured when he rear-ended their car last year.

Louis and Adrienne Maiatico of Bethlehem, Pa., are seeking more than $100,000 in damages in the suit, which was filed Friday (Nov. 7), the AP reports.

The suit claims Guarini took his eyes off the road and and hit the Maiaticos' car with his truck on March 12, 2002, three months before Guarini became a household name because of "American Idol." Louis Maiatico says he has injuries to his neck, back and side as a result of the accident.

Police in Bethlehem cited Guarini for following too closely. He notified the court that he planned to appeal the ticket, but later decided against it and paid $100 in fines and court costs.

Guarini, 25, finished second to Kelly Clarkson in the first "American Idol" competition in 2002. He starred with Clarkson in the movie "From Justin to Kelly" and has released a solo album, which didn't sell as well as those of Clarkson and Clay Aiken, the second-place finisher in the second "Idol."
