A Grueling Search, a Bevy of Candidates, One Empty Chair

For three months, viewers were entertained by a select group of potential candidates, all of whom auditioned on-air in the hope of becoming the show's fifth co-host.

The Finalists

Former Real World: San Francisco participant Rachel Campos, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, host The Look for Less, and actress Erin Hershey Presley, formerly of ABC Daytime's Port Charles, are the final three contenders. The announcement will officially be made live, November 24.

I have not watched the auditions since I am work at the time the View airs...LL no I haven't installed my TIVO...bad Cutie.

Of course my vote goes to Elisabeth Filarski Hasselbeck, the relationship she had with Kentucky Joe...Roger on Survivor the Outback was one of the most heartwarming relationships ever shown on reality tv.

Former "Survivor" ELISABETH HASSELBECK has been tapped for LISA LING's old job on "The View." Executive producer BARBARA WALTERS said it was a tough decision to pick between Elisabeth, "Real World" alumnus RACHEL CAMPOS and WRIN HERSHEY PRESLEY. Hasselbeck, who's married to Washington Redskins backup quarterback TIM HASSELBECK, will take over her ABC post immediately.

I only saw her for about five minutes one day and then most of the show the following day, she seemed to do a really great job and seemed to have good chemistry with the other ladies

Elisabeth Hasselbeck has been named to fill the coveted fifth chair!

ELISABETH FILARSKI HASSELBECK CHOSEN AS NEW CO-HOST FOR THE VIEW

Elisabeth Filarski Hasselbeck, a 26-year-old Providence, Rhode Island native, has been officially named the fifth co-host for ABC Daytime's widely successful multi-generational talk and informational entertainment program, The View, it was announced Monday, November 24, live on the show by creator and executive producer Barbara Walters.

Ms. Hasselbeck is best known to audiences as a participant on the wildly popular second edition of the Survivor game show, Survivor: the Australian Outback. While competing in Australia, Ms. Hasselbeck used her competitive personality and survival skills to outwit and outlast her way to the final four. She is a 1999 graduate from Boston College, where her studies centered around her studio art major. Ms. Hasselbeck is married to NFL quarterback Tim Hasselbeck.

Ms. Walters said "all three of our final contestants were very special and talented young women, but Elisabeth seemed just right, and our viewers' emails, telephone calls and letters truly supported our choice."

Ms. Walters' announcement ended a three-month search that included tryout sessions for 21 female candidates. Ms. Hasselbeck was among the final three contenders when the field was narrowed earlier this month. Former co-host Lisa Ling left the program in December, 2002, and The View has since showcased a number of celebrity hosts.

Elisabeth is a precious young lady and I'm happy for her to fill this spot. Now that I'm home, I'll watch it more, never did like Lisa Ling, so glad she is gone!
