Queer Eye for the Straight Guy

First off, I have NEVER watched this show before.  However, upon hearing that a good friend of mine was actually going to be on it, I am tuning in for the first time and not even through the episode yet.  John Zimmerman is an Olympic pairs figure skater and I have been on his fundraising team for many years.  I met him when he was 18 and he is now grown up and married to this hot Italian chick.   John has never been a great dresser and he likes his hair long. I can understand why he and his wife might need a "makeover".  But these "guys" are being pretty brutal so far.  I am in amazement over their home.  They both travel so much and I guess need some help in all areas of their life. I'll be back later after I finish watching it.   Grin

I've watched this episode actually, and enjoyed it.   I have recently gotten into this show and been catching all the back episodes.  They can be brutal sometimes in much the same way as Simon Cowell can, but for the most part it's also brutally honest, and someone going into a make-over should hear the truth (IMO). Wink  I figure they have heard of the show and know these guys aren't gonna pull any punches when they sign up.  The nice thing is they start out brutal but are great at bringing out the positives in the end.  My favorite is Thom the interior design guy...I have never seen a home remake of his yet that I didn't absolutely love.  I think he does such a fantastic job of really understanding how to modernize someone's personal style and tastes without losing any of their personal style and tastes in the process.  I think Carson also does a good job of that with clothing, he finds nice pieces that are still really in the person's comfort level of what they like to wear.

So what was the final verdict?  Did you like the show in the end?

Rhune, I absolutely LOVED IT!   Not so much the show, which I will go back and watch again for a better look at the "queer eye" guys.  I was just consumed with pride and emotion for actually knowing JZ and seeing how far he has come in his adult life. And how he adores his wife!  I only recently did a google search to see what he was up to and found that he had married.  I can still see this tall gawky long haired teenager walking into my office and learning what a dedicated kid he was about skating.  And his parents were so very passionate about raising money for his future. To know that I had a small hand in this is incredible.  I loved the makeover and can't wait to watch it again and again and to share it with my family.    Cheesy
