New Announcer for 'Price'
(Friday, April 09 01:29 PM)

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - CBS' venerable game show "The Price Is Right" needs a weatherman to know which way its showcase showdowns go. Rich Fields, most recently the weatherman at KPSP, CBS-2 in Palm Springs, California, has been named the third announcer in the 32-year history of the show.
Fields will take over officially on Friday, April 23.

"After auditioning and trying out five announcers on the air in recent months, we have selected Rich who seems to fit our show splendidly," says Bob Barker, the show's host and executive producer. "We think he will follow in the tradition of our previous legendary announcers, Johnny Olson and Rod Roddy."

Olson, the show's first announcer, served from 1972 until his death in 1985. He was replaced by Rod Roddy, who died this past October.

Fields mentions Olson as one of his main influences. A veteran of years of advertising and voiceover work, he has been associated with CBS for 13 of his 25 years in the business, with much of that time on the radio.

"The Price Is Right" is television's longest-running game show.

I can't even think of Bob Barker the same since I saw Happy Gilmore...I think watching him beat the snot out of Adam Sandler was one of the funniest moments of the film...

I can't imagine TPiR without Bob. He is the show, sort of like Casey Kasem is America's Top 40 and Richard Dawson was Family Feud. Others can take their place but they made the show.

Boradamer, you misread.  I thought the same thing at first.  It is not Bob who is leaving.  They are just adding a new announcer to take Rod Roddy's place.   Bob leave the show?  Nah.  Not as long as he is breathing.  lol

I thought he was computer generated and was in cryogenic storage since 1994.  It is good to know he is still breathing...   Grin

Not that I watch it hardly ever. About 3 times a year when I am home sick from work and there is nothing else on. But it will be interesting to hear the new kid on the block.  Young guy too. So he should last awhile. haaaaaaaaa

At least until Bob wakes up from his cryogenic storage.

When they were interviewing for the announcer spot did they have to find someone to fit into the purple sequin sports coat?   Grin
