MSN Entertainment

ABC is looking to Trump NBC's reality hit, "The Apprentice," with "The Benefactor," announced this week as a prime time series slated for ABC's fall 2004 schedule.

"The Benefactor" will feature entrepreneur Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, as the titular mogul.  Instead of a job, the carrot offered to contestants on NBC's "Apprentice" by New York real estate mogul Donald Trump, Cuban's applicants will vie for $1 million in  "tests of chardacter, intelligence, heart and maybe a little bit of luck," according to the network.

The hour-long series will debut at 8 p.m. ET on Mondays as part of the network's fall lineup.

Now trailing NBC, CBS and FOX in the prime time ratings wars, ABC unveiled a programming slate that substantially revamps its programming. A significant number of surviving shows will move to new time slots, and ABC is also rolling out a number of new show.

Overall, ABC will reduce its recent emphasis on comedy to dial up both dramas and 'alternative series,' ABC's own classification for unscripted reality shows. The new slate was unveiled less than a month after ABC dismissed its top programming executives and installed new president for prime time entertainment, Stephen McPherson.
