Bumping because I see that Atlantis is watching this also.

So far this is my favorite reality show of the summer.  I love cooking and have many times thought of opening a restaurant. But I could never be prepared for the likes of this. This is absolute TORTURE. Gordon Ramsey is a madman though I know he knows what he's doing. He really does have his kind moments though few and far. I think whoever wins will be someone older. Someone who does not have an "ego" and can learn and adapt to his criticism. I can already see some who won't make it.

Some of my favorite moments are whenever someone comes up to the hotplate I LMAO!  Whether it's a cook or a customer it's sure to be a hoot.

Anyway, I'm loving it so far.

I liek Micheal, he seems like one of the most talented cooks on there and one of the only ones who can handle the pressure of cooking for Ramsey.

Also, last week was hilarious, when he brought out the plate with the hells kitchen logo carved out in mushroooms, Ramsey: "You smart a**, next your going to tell me you have that tattooed on your a**"
lmao, I found that hilarious!

Hell’s Kitchen, Episode 4: The Tables Are All Set
by William Ingram -- 06/22/2005

After a disastrous third night of cooking, can the teams bounce back and actually get food to the customers of Hell’s Kitchen? The chef-wannabes need to learn two new dishes and how to set a formal table. Who will be going home this week?

Who’s that eating that nasty food?
Nasty Boys!”
--“Nasty,” Janet Jackson, 1986

Welcome to Hell’s Kitchen. We start off with a recap of last week. You can read my recap or I can just give you the short version: Mike changes teams … Mike’s team wins … Jeff melts down … Wendy can’t cook … Andrew locks horns with Ramsay … Jeff quits … Mike’s team wins … Wendy goes home.

Before we go on, let me point out a couple of things I learned on the internet. First, there was a disclaimer at the end of last week’s episode saying that Jeff decided to leave the show due to an injury. Several articles on the internet (Google: “gordon ramsay injury lawsuit”) say that Ramsay got into a shoving match with a contestant during filming and the contestant sprained his ankle. The reports do not mention the contestant by name, but I think I have a pretty good idea as to which contestant it was.

So, let’s start this next episode and see what mayhem Ramsay will cause this week – I’ll bet there will be a lot of dish smashing.

After Wendy’s eviction, we find Jessica rather upset. She says that Wendy was such a sweet girl. Meanwhile, the red team is rightly happy that they won the challenge despite a member quitting. Perhaps they won because he quit.

Later Ralph has a heart-to-heart with Andrew. He tells him that he needs to check his ego at the door or he will quickly find himself toe-to-toe with Ramsay every week until his ass is fired.

Early the next morning, sous chefs Scott and Maryann make a rare appearance on the show and wake the contestants up with air horns. Since the teams are each down a member, they will have to start dinner preparation earlier than before.

After they’ve done that for a bit, Ramsay enters and tells them all that, in order to be good cooks, they must become familiar with the dining room. I’m not quite sure why, but nevertheless, the chefs all file out to the dining area. Jean Philippe shows them a perfectly set table for four and explains each exact placement of the silverware and china.

Elsie says what everyone is thinking, and that is that no one was paying attention. Just for emphasis, we see several shots of the players looking around, examining the ceiling and so on while Jean Philippe drones on and on… and on. Ramsay approaches and asks if they have been paying attention and they answer, in unison, “Yes chef!”

“Good,” says Ramsay and yanks the tablecloth from beneath the setting. Dishes and glasses crash to the floor. He then shows them their own table behind them and challenges them to recreate the table setting he just destroyed.

Ramsay shouts at them to begin. They have five minutes to correctly arrange the 96 pieces. Whichever team has the fewest mistakes wins. Much to the horror of Ramsay, the teams practically throw the dishware onto the table.

But as the timer runs out, both teams have more or less gotten all the dishware in order. It looks good to me. But then, I am not a maitre d’. Jean Philippe and Ramsay come over to examine each table. They start with the red table. The dishes are off center and there are fingerprints all over the glasses and dishes. Ramsay spots four mistakes out of 96 and declares that they weren’t paying attention.

Now, I tell you what, if I only got four question wrong on a test with 96 questions, I’d get an “A” on the test.

But it’s on to the blue table. The biggest problem seems to be that the glasses are too close together and patrons might get the glasses caught on the plates as they lift them.

Ramsay confers with Jean Philippe and finally declares that the blue team is the winner. The red team must polish all the silverware and glasses for the next night’s dinner. The red team returns to their dorm and finds their reward. It’s an afternoon of relaxation with a full spa treatment.

Later, as everyone is relaxing outside, they are letting off a little steam by making fun of Ramsay and Jean Philippe. Elsie suddenly notices a giant billboard outside the encampment. It’s an advertisement for Hell’s Kitchen, with Gordon Ramsay staring down at them all. They have a good laugh and note that he’s always watching them.

At 7:00 the next morning, the chefs report to work. With three failed dinner services behind them, Ramsay expects great improvements in tonight’s service. To help matters along, he is adding two new items to the menu: frog’s legs and pigeon.

He then shows them how to dress and prepare the new meals. Several players are disgusted with the pigeon. Jess says that it smells and looks disgusting. Elsie has a problem seeing real animals butchered. But the chefs are troopers and set about dressing and prepping the new items.

Before dinner service, Ramsay gathers everyone for some news. The first team to serve all its patrons will be safe. Of course, I don’t see how this is different from the previous three services, other than maybe tonight everyone will get served.

Oh, and the red team is further punished by having to set up all 30 tables in the dining room. The red team gets it done with five minutes to prepare. The blue team has had the extra time to prepare. Ralph spends some of the time writing up cooking tips on pieces of tape for Andrew’s station.

Soon enough, the beautiful people of California begin to arrive in their limos and Hummers. The food orders start coming in.

Elsie is in a special role tonight. For the first time, she is responsible for all the meat dishes. This is a big step for her. Andrew says that his goal for the night is to keep his mouth shut.

After twenty minutes, the blue team is doing well and gets some orders out. There is an interesting exchange between Ramsay and Elsie.

Ramsay: “How long to cook the spaghetti?”

Elsie: “Five minutes. FIVE MINUTES!”

Ramsay: “Elsie. Don’t do this to me.”

Elsie: “Two minutes.”

Ramsay: “I’m not waiting that long.”

Elsie: “Okay, thirty seconds!”

Ramsay: “For God’s sake woman, calm down. You just told me two minutes.”

It seems that Ramsay thinks he can order spaghetti noodles to cook faster.

In a little under an hour, the blue team gets out its first entrée. Ramsay compliments Jessica. “Thank you, Chef,” she replies. Andrew is not doing well at the vegetable station and is screwing up some food. Ramsay yells at him and Andrew doesn’t get upset, but simply continues working. Ramsay is being unusually civil about it.

After an hour, the red team is getting some entrées into the dining room. But Jimmy serves up cold garnish and Ramsay gives him an earful (no, not of food). It seems that Ramsay has mellowed out a lot since Jeff’s departure from the show. He’s not yelling at or getting physical with the players anymore.

The blue team has now served three desserts and looks like they are headed to a win. But Andrew is still getting on Ramsay’s bad side and forcing chef to reject food. Ramsay says, in a voiceover, that, since Andrew didn’t talk back, he was finally starting to understand discipline. The red team has now served one dessert and is catching up.

After a while longer, red has twelve tickets left to finish and blue has ten. Soon, blue has five left. But there is a problem. One blue patron has sent back some food and complains that the risotto is “mushy.” The blue team must start the order over again. It seems strange to me that, with 25 tables completely finished (including dessert), they are still serving some tables appetizers.

Anyway, this sets the blue team back pretty far. The red team chugs along. They have six left to serve. Blue fights back and gets the risotto fixed. But they forgot the tuna, so Ramsay sends everything back and they have to start all over again. Mary Ellen is pissed.

The red team is down to two tickets. Then they are onto their last ticket. Ramsay orders Jimmy to dance like a ballerina. Sous chef Maryann says that she is so fricking proud of her team. I didn’t even notice Maryann in the room until now.

The blue team came close, but they lost by just a few tables. Ramsay is proud of both teams, especially the red team, who had to set all the tables, which ate into their prep time.

He turns to the blue team and announce that the star chef of the day was Jess and that she will nominate two players. She has the traditional thirty minutes to decide.

But she really doesn’t need all that time, does she? There are only four members on the team. She can’t nominate herself and Ramsay would have a fit if she nominated Ralph. So, Andrew and Mary Ellen, each shown as screw-ups this week, will be nominated. And everyone else knows it too. Andrew thinks that his chances of surviving the guillotine twice are about zero. But Jess takes the full thirty minutes to think about it.

Anyway, they all assemble in the restaurant and await Jessica’s decision. Her first is Andrew because he had trouble with the vegetables. Her second choice is her friend Mary Ellen, because she was not able to bounce back from the risotto episode.

Ramsay asks each to defend themselves. Andrew says that he has learned discipline. Mary Ellen says she did a good job overall, but slipped up at the end. Ramsay considers both points and finally boots Mary Ellen from the game because she brought the whole kitchen to a stand still.

She takes that long walk down the hallway to the dumpsters. Mary Ellen thinks Andrew will be joining her soon enough.

Be sure to join us next week and I’ll reserve a table near the fish tank for you.

Hell’s Kitchen, Episode 5: More Lasagna, Sir?
by William Ingram -- 06/28/2005

The red team has an extra chef, but will it make a difference when the chefs have to cook in shifts? Will Michael escape another week? Will "weak link" Jimmy cost himself the contest? William has all the "saucy" details.

“On top of spaghetti all covered with cheese.
I lost my poor meatball when somebody sneezed.”
-- Children’s Classic

Welcome to Hell’s Kitchen. We start off with a recap of last week. You can read my recap or I can just give you the short version. Three failures up to this point… blue team leading… Andrew screws up… Andrew keeps his mouth shut… Wendy screws up…blue team loses… Wendy goes home.

And so, without further ado, let’s look at this week’s episode. We find the blue team devastated after another loss. Jessica is really pissed off that chef Ramsay eliminated her friend Mary Ellen instead of Andrew.

Meanwhile, Andrew is sweating bullets. Everybody in the game hates him and he is just exhausted. He wasn’t expecting to survive another round and he dreads going through another two days in the kitchen.

The next morning, they all gather in the kitchen. Chef Ramsay asks Ralph who is the strongest member of the team. He says that he, Ralph, is. Ramsay asks who the weakest link is and he says that Andrew is. He asks Chris on the red team the same questions. Chris also says that he is the strong link and that Jimmy is the weak link.

But, nothing comes of this line of questioning… yet. Ramsay announces that, starting tomorrow night, the restaurant will change its menu and become a pasta restaurant. He invites them over to the pasta machine and shows them the proper way to make pasta. He rolls the dough to the proper thickness and runs it through the machine a few times before cutting it.

He summons Chris over and uses him as a human drying rack. He first sprinkles Chris with flour and then drapes the noodles over his outstretched arms. Then, he drapes some over his head and shoulders and everyone has a good laugh.

He tells the teams that they have twenty minutes to make as much pasta as possible. Chris will sit out because the red team has one extra man and besides, he’s covered with spaghetti.

Chef Ramsay waves his arm and they’re off! Both teams start pounding the dough. Both look like they are doing well keeping their machines floured so that nothing sticks. When the pasta is cut, it must be hung to dry on a teammate’s arms. The red team picks Jimmy as the drying horse and the blue team picks Andrew. I might note that these are the two weak links of the teams. With only a couple of minutes left, both teams are loading up with pasta.

Time is up and the red team has far more pasta than the blue team. But, chef Ramsay points out that not all of the pasta will be up to his standards. He will now examine each strand of spaghetti and only count the good stuff.

He approaches Andrew on the blue team. The first handful of pasta passes muster. It’s about half a pound. The next handful fails, but the third passes. Overall, 2.41 pounds of pasta passes. He then calls Jimmy over. Ramsay passes most of it, but some of it is all tangled up. Despite them appearing to have much more pasta to start with, they only manage to have 2.45 pounds of good pasta. But, that’s barely good enough to win.

The red team wins an afternoon out of the kitchen. The blue team must create spaghetti for the tomorrow night’s entire service. All due to four one hundredths of a pound. Ramsay has arranged a gondola ride for the red team, complete with a picnic dinner and wine. Back in the kitchen, the blue grouses about their loss. Six hours later and the blue team is finished and the red team returns from their outing.

Michael and Jessica chat for a bit in the dorm kitchen. Jess thinks Michael is just playing the shy, innocent guy, but she is sure that he would lie, cheat, and steal to win the game.

Later that evening, at about 3:00 a.m., Michael arises and goes outside to talk to himself. This is, apparently, a nightly ritual for him. He tells chef Ramsay’s sign that he will do anything to win.

The next morning, chef Ramsay meets them all in the kitchen. He springs a little surprise on them. Tonight, the meal service will be double booked. For the first service, one team will cook and the other will serve. For the second service, the roles will be reversed. They spend the rest of the day preparing ingredients and learning recipes for the three starters, three main courses, and three desserts.

With an hour to go. Chef Ramsay asks the red team to decide who will cook first, since they won the challenge. They decide that they will cook first. The blue team heads out to set the tables. Jessica is worried because she’s never served tables before and doesn’t know how to hold the serving tray, for example.

Now, what bothers me a bit is that the red team has four players and the blue team three. That seems like a huge advantage to the red team. When the teams were six to five, it wasn’t that big of a deal, but with the reduced numbers, it should be a big deal. I don’t see any way that the producers are evening out the work.

In any case, it’s 6:00 and the beautiful people of California start arriving in their limos and Rolls Royces. Soon, the orders start pouring in. Ralph is pouring on the charm as a waiter, schmoozing all the lady customers and recommending different dishes.

Jimmy gets a few appetizers out, but Ramsay rejects them because the dishware is dirty. Apparently, the toasted bread is shedding on the plate and this is unacceptable.

An hour into the service and the red team has gotten most of their starters served. They start on the main courses. They have until 8:00 to serve as many people as possible.

With 30 minutes left, things are not looking good. Perhaps this is because Michael is not trying as hard as usual. Typically, he helps out when other teammates fall behind, but tonight, he is concentrating only on the desserts and ignoring the fact that the rest of the team is falling behind.

Out on the dining floor, with ten minutes left, Jessica has been told to just take whatever food is ready and serve it to whoever wants it. It’s like, “Are you hungry? Here, eat this.”

At the two hour mark, Ramsay clears the restaurant and has the two teams switch places. He swears at the red team since they did not perform up to his standards.

An hour later, at 9:00, more Californian beautiful people arrive in their limos and Vipers. The red team starts taking orders.

Michael tells the camera that, in order to over come their poor performance in the kitchen, the red team will do whatever they can to screw over the blue team. Uh oh. That sounds like a really bad idea to me. He says that his team knows that the lasagna is the toughest dish to make, so he will try to push the diners into ordering the lasagna.

In the kitchen, the blue team is feeling the pressure of being down one member. He is rather terse with Andrew and Jessica, but they all put their noses to the grindstone and get to work.

True to their word, the red waiters push the lasagna. The blue team recognizes what’s going on, but they can’t really do much about it except press on.

Meanwhile, Ralph is frying the tomatoes up with too much vigor and splashing the serving plates. Ramsay tells him to cook less aggressively.

Out on the floor, overweight Jimmy is feeling the pressure and is starting to sweat as he runs up and down the stairs. The customers notice and eventually Jean Philippe calls him on it and tells him to stop wiping his brow and touching his head in front of the customers. Jimmy also manages to serve the wrong food to the wrong table, setting back the blue team’s orders. Ramsay orders Jimmy out of his sight.

With twenty minutes to go, the strategy to push the lasagna is working. The blue team is hopelessly behind. Some customers are getting antsy. One customer gets in Ramsay’s face and Ramsay retorts by saying, “Yeah, well you need to lose some weight.” Chris confides to the customer, “Hey, you got off easy.”

Wow. Chef Ramsay sure has been neutered ever since that presumed shoving match he got into a few weeks ago.

And so, the timer runs out on the blue team. Ramsay shuts down the kitchen and sends the customers away foodless.

He gathers the teams around to give them their report card. He says that he is disappointed in both teams. They made things much harder than necessary. The red team served more food (well duh, they had four members), but the diners liked the blue food better. The blue team served the food well, but the red team was dismal.

Ramsay says that this was the hardest decision he’s had to make so far, but the red team is the losing team. He declares Michael to be the best chef and tells him to nominate two players. He has thirty minutes to decide.

Obviously, one of them will be Jimmy, since chef made a point of how bad Jimmy was. That leaves him to pick Elsie or Chris. Michael tells the camera that this will be an easy decision. He is here to win. Hmm.

Ramsay asks Michael for his choices. He picks Elsie and says that she got flustered. His second nominee is Chris. This stuns the room and the home audience. Obviously, Michael is using strategy to eliminate a better competitor. Ramsay asks Michael to repeat it because he can’t believe what he is hearing. Michael gives his reason that Jimmy worked so hard tonight that he couldn’t put him through elimination.

Ramsay congratulates Jimmy for dodging the bullet. He tells Elsie and Chris to defend themselves. Elsie says that she has come from nothing and has learned a huge amount in the time she’s been there. Chris thinks that his work ethic and hard work should keep him in the game.

Ramsay thinks about it for a bit. He shocks the room by asking for Chris’ jacket. Michael smiles discretely. He says that it pisses him off when people self-promote and then can’t deliver the goods. It’s unclear exactly who he is referring to. We are left to assume it is Chris, but it was such a cryptic statement that we can’t be sure.

Chris walks down that long hallway to the dumpsters behind the kitchen.

Hell's Kitchen
9 pm/ET, FOX
It's Jessica, Michael, Ralph and Elsie heading into the Kitchen final four, so let's hope they don't choke. Especially when Gordon orders them to whip up a menu made solely from leftovers. And if you think that's hard to swallow, just wait until Elsie hits her boiling point as Gordo begins eyeing his next victim. — Damian J. Holbrook
