I absolutely LOVE this show.  I think it is one of the most well written ones on TV these days.  Too risque for regular network though.

OMG luci! It's on FX and it's about NYC firefighters, post 9-11.  The main character, Tommy, played fantastically (deserves an emmy) by Denis Leary, is a fantastic firefighter, and a drunk.
 
The writing is excellent, but very graphic.  A lot like Nip/Tuck.  Have you seen that one?
 
Both are worth renting 1st & second seasons.
