Amazing, he's not "ugly"

from "Straits Times" SIngapore, Jan 21 2005

NYC - He was filmed verbally abusing his wife and was even seen shoving her, but AR6 contestant Jonathan Baker says he's not an ugly person

The Californian entreprenuer and his wife Victoria Fuller were kicked out of the latest episode of the CBS reality TV show.

But Baker, 42, told the New York Post, "I'm not this ugly person that I've been made out to be. I took the game too seriously and I took myself too seriously.

"But most of all I didn't like the person I saw up there. Victoria and I RECONCILED privately, but I didn't like the person that I portrayed on the screen because I think that I'm a better person than that."

He admitted that he has received hate e-mail - 300 a day - since the episode in which he shoved Fuller at the pit stop in Berlin.

"If you google my name, all I am is an abuser," he said.

But he insisted that there were gentle moments between them that were edited out.

"I asked CBS, 'Why did you do this to me?' You know what they said to me? 'we didn't think it was going to get this out of control.'

The post also quoted Fuller, a former Playboy-model, as saying "he's not abusive at all" in real life.

In the lastest episode, the pair fell behind when Fuller, 32, cut herself on a piece of metal while in Ethiopia.

Then they misread the rules to the challenge and ended up travelling 11km on foot surrounded by 100 singing Ethiopian singing children.

Baker said he was so moved by how the children helped them that he gave all his money, possessions and the clothes off his back to the people in the Ethiopian village.

"This episode was about my redemption," he said.

I don't think it's the stress of the game that makes you like that, i think it's just you who makes you like you are...

well I guess... what we saw in TAR is his true nature that he hides in his daily mask.. a mask of kindness and gentleness...

but when he gets frustrated, you see his true nature... maybe he doesn't get much frustrated in his day-to-day life... Grin

but then again...he may be good in front of others but... he is not good truely...

If you look on CBS's website, the extra video shows Jon and Vic at their best and worst.  It has them eating a FREE meal in Nice.  It makes me think that THEY must have given SOMETHING for it.  Maybe an autograph (of a Playmate) or a peep show maybe.  Who know, he has other problems he needs to deal with.  Someone who is SOOOO nice to some people and screaming at others (his wife), I beleive is hiding something (deep and dark).  We need to prey that he seeks help and prey for her safty.

He is just a wine and dine guy... a complete abusive jerk and there is no saying that they are not dysfunctional. It's just not possible.

My grandmother was like this.  No one she worked with or encountered on a daily basis would have believed us if we'd told them of her controlling abusive nature at home.  She was great at putting on a front for others, and knew the right things to say to make herself look good.  But at home she was controlling and verbally abusive.  It's taken years for my mom, aunt and me to break away and get far enough away from her to break the cycle.  As she's gotten older (she's in her 80's now), she's not as good at hiding it anymore.  Friends and other family members are starting to see what we've known all these years, and are amazed at what we've been through with her.

What's sad, is when you live in that situation, you don't realize you're dysfunctional until you get away from it.  Maybe Victoria's father is the same way and that's the cycle she's lived in her whole life and thinks it's "normal" for someone to be like that.

Eventually the truth comes out tho, whether it be old age, or 24 hour a day cameras on you.

I agree Rachel and yesteach.  When I watched Reichen and Chip on the Race I caught glimpses of the "brat" in both of them that I saw in their real lives.  But I can honestly say I was very surprised that they were less frustrated than I expected them to be, and I saw that bond that is always there when they are together shine through their struggles.
